Technical Advice Needed - Leon TDi/PD

hi guys,

i'm looking for some guidance from those of you that know your leons!

i have a mk1 leon tdi se 110 hp.

unfortunatly i did a grand job of stuffing it into a curb:cry: . when i went to someone who is breaking a leon tdi (for parts) it turns out it is in fact a 150 PD model, with a complete engine, loom ECU, box etc etc.

now i am considering swapping my 110 tdi for this engine. it comes complete with hubs, shafts, box, loom, ecu, engine etc etc (no clocks or keys ut i can get a key coded)

i understand that the whole lot will need to come out but i am a little concerned of any electrical issues i may encounter, for instance, will the 150Fr engine loom match straight upto the 110 TDI car loom? does the fuel tank differ?

any advice would be great as i dont know too much about dervs:(

thanks in advance,

john

As said on msn ... there might be some merit in taking the aircon / fmic / radiator from this - not really the person to ask though.

Would be handy if a few of the more knowledgeable folk here could advise on what is worth getting IF the engine is a no no :)

as ive said before many part will differ i think of the top of my head that the leon motor 110 bhp was the asv similar to the afn alhambra lump.
the injectors on the older motor were controlled just by the diesel pump on the new pd motor there is no feed pump just a secondary pump which increases the fuel pressure to the injectors which are electronically controlled
so ecu, loom dsh panel insert fuel lines/routing gearbox will all be different
engine and gearbox mountings different will have a pump in the tank instead of sender and pickup air filter housing and mountings will all be different
gearshift basically everything will be different.it is yes of course possible
but how much £££££ do you want to throw at it to get another 30-40 bhp
i think by the time its done and running with all problems sorted out you could go out and buy a brand new car for the cost of doing it.
But if you dont want to stay with diesel go and get a lcr or tt or s3 motor DTA
or emerald aftermarket ecu and you could have a 1.8t running mapped gor £2500

This will indeed cost you a lot of money unless your good at doing this yourself. But you have to look at other things such as, telling the Insurance exactly what you've done. How everything works out, more powerful engine means higher rated tyres and so forth. In the end it sums up to be quite a bit of money and in some cases tiresome. If you wish to sell the car on at a later date, this can prove difficult too.
Think about it for a while, and ask... Is it worth it?

It has to be said, this would be a costly job in terms of all the stuff you would need to buy, and the labour costs of getting it fitted (if you couldn't do it yourself) on top of uprating tyres (as mentioned) and brakes etc it might be worth getting someone like Allards to work some magic on and make the most of what your standard engine can do.
Whichever route you take, i hope it works out cost effective and works ok.

thanks again guys.

i would offer for the complete front end of the car, from the front doors onwards, so everything engine wise is there.

the conversion i could do myself, provided i'm not going to run into any barriers electrically as this is not a strong point of mine.

i probaly wont end up with the conversion if it involves a lot of loom work, as the 110 is already upsoluted. but it seemed worth considering as i already have FR suspension & the 150 fr brakes are going to be fitted.

cheers
