Rang SEAT UK CS.

After being told there were no recalls on this matter and I insisted that quite a few VAG vehicles were affected ie 2.6 million worldwide, I was told on a call back that letters are going out to owners of vehicles which are affected in January.

He seemed to suggest that they were looking into which cars were affected almost as if, and that's me speculating here, that some might have been filled with mineral oil at the factory from a certain date. Maybe the shutdown or whenever.

All gone quiet on this "voluntary recall".
Emailed Honest John and was quite alarmed by this:

Hi HJ,
>>
>> I have a 63 plate SEAT Leon with a 1.2 TSi Engine mated to the DSG
>> DQ200 gearbox which is subject to a VAG UK "voluntary recall"
>> as you reported last year. Since then it has all gone quiet. In November and December, SEAT Customer Services said letters are going out. None have arrived.
>> Could you ask VAG UK what is the latest on this voluntary recall?

The problem is that they filled 7 speed dry clutch DSGs with synthetic oil in 2012 and 2013 and this has been crystallising in hot temperatures, causing the Mechatronics to fuse and the car to lose drive.
>
> Despite 2.6 million DSGs being recalled worldwide, they don't consider
> this to be sufficient of a problem to warrant a recall in the UK,
> hoping that the routine change of fluid at 3-4 years, paid for by the
> customer, will do the job.
They won't spend the money replacing all that transmission fluid unless they have to.

Is there any other source of info out there?

OK another call to SEAT UK CS re the replacing of the synthetic oil with Mineral oil in the DSG DQ200 gearbox. Gabrielle went away and reported that you just take it to your nearest dealership and they will replace the oil FOC. They were now geared up to do this work (sorry!). So it looks like the letters we were promised are not going out (thus saving 50p stamp).
Any one tried this?

Thanks Fusster. It seems the left and right hands really don't know what they are doing. I think I'll test my dealer and report back.

OK got passed from CS to a Case manager to the Executive Office. Here's the story. The mineral oil for the replacement synthetic oil in the DSG gearbox is not yet available.

Well obviously if it's still being formulated, synthesised or bottled then there can be no action yet.

She assured me that we would all get letters (no time scale) when everything is in place and the work would take between 1 and 2 hours

I do wonder why none of the other 8 people I have spoken to could say this including the service department on a couple of occasions.

Hello guys! I hope this issue will get fixed ASAP as it is a very important problem.
I was feeling a little sad because I did not order my car with a DSG box, but after reading this topic I am starting to love the hassle free manual one.

I have finally had what I believe to be the definitive answer regarding the DSG oil change on the voluntary recall. It's taken some persistence since November 2013 when the recall was announced but here it is:

4000 SEATS are affected in the UK, mainly in the MY 2013 up to VIN No 5FZDR052123.

Hope this helps.

Our DSG was filled with "hassle free" mineral oil at the factory two months ago. :)

First automatic transmission car that we have owned and really like the 7-speed DSG so far. Can't imagine buying another manual when DCTs are this good.

Mine too. But really it's not a big deal in the UK . No reports of any failures. Just make sure the oil is changed when you are summoned.

Pah! Just got a recall letter from Seat. Annoying as it only had its service last month!

Well at least you won't have to change the oil for an extra year or two. 2 hours in the workshop and you'll be good to go.
May I ask what year your DSG is?
