While driving my car today(2003 Leon Cupra) i noticed the temperature gauge rising up past the 90 mark and it rose to 120 with a red flashing light and a beeping noise.i stopped the car and checked it over as best i could, signs of fluid leak, checked all fluids etc, but nothing.i rang my local dealer and they said that as long as the fluids were ok it would be fine to drive and it was proberly the temperature sensor, but they would need to check.I had to keep driving and the same thing happened time and time again, but when i went downhills,or coasted in neutral it went back to 90 degrees and once i has to accelerate, it went back up to 120 with the beeps and lights going,

Please someone out there help as its my daily drive and i need it sorted ASAP!!

Many thanks

jonathan

maybe in your case just a faulty sensor but majority of the time its the water pump, or maybe ur coolant got so hot it fried the sensor ?

Well, where do i start???
I was on my way to my local dealer this morning to pick up a new temperature sensor when about a mile from the dealership the temperature gauge hits rock bottom, red light flashes, buzzer going off, then loads of what looked like smoke coming out the back end of the car.Pull into the dealership and stop with loads of steam coming out from under the bonnet, mechanic has a look and says that the impaller(sorry for spelling) on the water pump has gone and the pump is knackered, causing a build up of pressure in the coolant pipes to actually blow the temperature sensor out of its pipe and send all the coolant out into the engine bay and onto the lovely black stuff, the mechanic phoned my today and said that there is also a knocking coming from the engine now and that the water pump, cambelt needs changing, so instead of it costing me £20 for the temperaure sensor, its now costing me £340 to get fixed and it may not even work then if the knocking is still there.I dont know how bad the knocking is(am off to the dealers 2moro), he said he may need to remove the head to see if there is any internal damage been caused which would considerably bump up the price, and knowing the way my luck has been going lately, it really wouldnt surprise me if it wasent totally shagged.

so wish me luck and thanks for the help and advise guys

Gutted for you, but how does he know there is a knocking? Why as he started it up knowing the symptons and the water/antifreeze lost?

Be wary.

he told me that he put coolant into the car, and took it down the road for a test drive.
also, do you think £340 is quite expensive? ive been told that the car is un-drivable, so im unable to get it taken to another garage
plus the service manager is my next door neightbour who said he was doing me his best deal

Prices vary all over tbh, is a bit on the higher side, but so could your house prices be to others (see where I'm going?)
Really dismayed that he took it for a test drive knowing it had just burst over the road and the water pump as already gone.

First ive heard of one failing to the point of blasting the sender out. youve been unlucky.
Test driving the car with a failed WP is stupid. Amazing that the sender didnt blow out again??

I paid similar to jabbasport so although its not the cheapest its not rip off pricing but id be inclined to find a good independent specialist for future issues should you have any.

Hope its easierly sorted
