Testing coil packs without a 20vt

Is there are way of testing coil packs without having a 20vt lump handy? I have got a bag of them.

DISCLAIMER : If you blow your legs off, don't come running to me.

Stick a spark plug in the bottom of the pack.
Connect pins 2 and 4 to the negative side of a battery.
Connect pin 1 to the positive.
Connect pin 3 (switching wire) to a lead that you temporarily touch to the positive.

See if the plug sparks.

Bear in mind that this is only a basic test and will not show if the pack is breaking down at high revs.
