Finally got round to making a vid of the tamed beast. Everyone on here pretty much knows this car's life history - However, for the first time ever, you can hear the full cry of the non-res Milltek exhaust, and the awesome "tssssssssst" noise from the Forge BOV.

Video is MPEG-4 (Needs Quicktime or other compatible video player installed):
Cupra Video (93.2 MB)

Right click the shortcut and select to "Save As". The MPEG-4/Quicktime video is very high quality.

Also uploaded to YouTube for those without a MAC or Quicktime:

Most of the major problems it was having are now cleared, but I do still need to keep a very close eye on the cam follower for the new fuel pump. Can't afford for it to fail again.

While recording, the car was on the 100th and something revision to the REVO code, trying to curb back some of the torque at low RPM causing it to break traction even on dry roads. Car was (and still is) capiable of approx 360/370 BHP, but running boosting and fuel timings agreesive enough has made the car un-reliable, and the power is un-managable without a LSD over the front axle.

So, I guess the 345PS I have stopped at (with just over 400Nm of torque) is a good compromise between engine longetivity and every day drivability. The map we have saved with the car at approx 362BHP will be used for track use, and nothing more. It does not feel any faster using it though, but you just notice things failing faster.

It is a shame really. When this car works it's great... Only got 8 months left of owning her now, so... Anyone want to find her a new home before my RS arrives?

So the cam follower failed and took the cam with it? Or did you catch the cam follower wear before it did damage to the cam? How many miles is on your cupra?

Poverty, I caught the Cam follower just in-time the 2nd time round. First time round I was not so lucky, and busted out the Mastercard for an expensive repair. The car's on it's 3rd cam follower now, and it's been put thru it's paces just like the others were. After 1000 miles of track use back to back over the last few weekends, it's looking as good as new, and showing no signs of failing like the previous ones have done.

To achieve this, as mentioned above, fueling timing's on the REVO code are critical to how long it lasts, and me and the guys at Vagtech think we have cracked it... Car just seams fine :)

I would rather see it in the hands of another enthuiast rather than see her end up on a steeler forecourt or be sold at auction. If I dont find a private buyer, then I will P/X her to Ford - Because that RS is coming regardless!!!

Yeah I am interested, looking to get a cupra march/april time, and although its not white the fact its already modded makes up for this. If I can find a insurance company that will insure me with all those mods I think I will get yours if its still for sale come march!

I insure the car with Adrian Flux all mods included - The price is very good too, as it didnt increase much over the cost of insuring a standard one (24 with 5 years NCD, clean licence). I will still have the car in March/April for sure, as I was not going to put a private advert out for it until June/July. However, if the cash was on the table so to speak, and someone wanted it earlier, then I would not turn it down, and will sell earlier.

I dont use the Leon everyday - My diesel Mondeo is taking the brunt of my 800 miles a week daily driving. The Cupra just sits in a garage for the best part, and come's out at the weekends if the weather is nice - Or if it's going to Vagtech to be fettled with even further!

I will also mention that less than 1K ago, 4 new top spec Dunlop SportMaxx TT tyres went on, as well as a complete Oil change + Filter, the Air Filter was replaced and it was given new front brake pads. the only thing she will need for the next 10,000 miles is the one routine service due Dec 09 (or 30,000 miles) and the fuel you will use...

You also know that Inferi Black is the best colour, especially when clean!!! It looks so stealthy... I'll drop you a PM with my details if you want? Would be glad to see it in the hands of someone else who will also look after her :)

Yeah your details would be handy mate, along with a list of all the mods so I can start shopping around for insurance. A quick look on confused.com came back with quotes for 2400 on a stock cupra, so will give a couple specialists a call with the list of mods and see if I can get a similiar price!

nice !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
love the soundtrack , just wish mine was back so i could start the modding merry go round.

am i reading it right that the fuelling is knackering the cam follower?
is that cause the extra load being put on the pump?

The way I understand it from reading the world wide web is that if you have a aftermarket pump, you need to be checking the cam follower every couple thousand miles!

Wasn't very fast though - only ever managed 60mph, I though a Cupra woul be quicker than that!!! ;)

I was going to post that people have been done posting similar videos on public roads, but didn't twig he wasn't going over 60. Doh!

Very impressive how it picks up speed - with those stats surely the RS will actually be slower standard day to day?

Back from the dead
DanGB has a mk2 leon 421bhp

Dan's car is a bit of a special case though. Whilst warranty's are still in place won't find many Cupra's or 2.0T's in that extreme level of tune for a while. I saw Dan's car at Brunters in the summer and it was an amazing piece of kit.

Dan's would cane it on the straight, but if the Revoknuckle suspension is as good as Ford suggest we had all better watch out on the twisties as the RS could be rather special. Power is very important, but the chassis has to be able to translate that onto the tarmac in all conditions / road surfaces etc...

shhhhh

...and thats with a posslbe turbo problem

Looking forward to seeing the focus RS, looks to be a great car. Power is nothing without grip, so hopefully Ford have pulled something special with the RS. A diff only helps so much :D

Makes you wonder if the Fucus RS is running near a maximum of 300bhp because it's been mapped up from the ST's 230bhp, or whether it could now be mapped up to 350bhp+ because it's engines been redesigned. We'll have to wait to see.

i would think its probably a new design and would probably see closer to 380 with the right mods.
1 thing is is strange is volvo haven't launched a hot R series , seeing as they share the same engines.

Any ways looks like good times ahead from car companies , just need SEAT to produce a real upgrade from the 1.8 without all the problems that exsist with the current 2.0tfsi or perhaps the the new 2.0tsi will be a big improvement but too earley to tell.
