The TT Brake Upgrade

As many of you know im fitting some 312mm Brakes off of a audi TT225.

I ordered discs and pads from GSF, forgetting to ask for a discount for being a member off here/ed38 :(

Then i found some calipers, that had only got delivery miles on, on ebay. They had the brake lines on aswell which will be usfull.

So after some searching on here and talking to m0rk i knew what needed doing. When the discs came they looked like this:

Well i knew what i needed and I found a picture on this forum that looked like this:

I printed this picture off and took it to the gentleman who would be fabricating everything up for me. He discovered, that i didnt actually want the holes as big as pictured, as the tt has 14mm holes and our Mk2's have 12mm holes. He decided to use the guide as one 12mm hole, one of the 14mm holes and drill 2 new 12mm holes to minimise the movement that the disc can do. Here is it as it is now:

He wanted me there just to double check that i wanted 4mm off the caliper. We fitted the disc and put the calliper up to it and checked. 4mm was the amount that other users had found was needed to bring the disc central to the caliper. As shown in this persons picture:

So right now the calipers will probably be done and be on there way to me. Ill keep you posted on:

How much it has all cost.

What spacer i need to fit my standard ronals over the brakes.

And ofcoarse how they preform!

Ps, can i fit my 280mm brakes to my rear axel?

You forgot the S3. :)

And it's just the petrol versions of the Leon Cupras that had the 312mm brakes as Seat in their infinite wisdom decided to fit the heavier TDI models with 288mm ones instead.

So I got my calipers back today.

When i got them, they looked like this: (ignore my markings)

Now they look like this:

Today i also ordered 2 sets of spacers. a set of 3mm hubsemetrical and 5mm hubsemetrical ones too. I ordered both incase i needed more than 3mm to clear my ronals. And also i might need 5mm for the borbet bs' that i want.

Im going to try to get them fitted on saturday.

Does anyone know about putting the 280mm on the back?

had mine on longer than anyone, and they haven't opened up at all - discs are clamped on, the lame screw is just there as an aid to help when you take the discs off

280's won't work on the back, for so many reasons, but the best is that they have nowhere to put bearings

Sorry for the slow progress. The spacers are 2 days over due. Hopefully they will arrive tommorow. Ive found some Seat sport super t's though, and they might not even need spacing! Ill fit the brakes with my ronals to see what spacing they need anyway, its my duty to the mk2 boys!

Yeah, they'll clear SEAT Sport Super T's no problem (they were fine on my old normal ET38 Super T's)
