The weather's definately warming up and I can really feel some loss of power. Later at night my car is pulling higher than in the day, but earlier in the year, am, noon, om made little/no difference.

Cash is gone on life's other expenses so will have to 'secretly' save i think. Guessing approx £700 if I fit it.

I would like to get the TIP done also, as this must be quite restrictive.

Does the Forge FMIC kit replace the restrictive stock intercooler intake or does it feed from that?

Anyone who has stage 1 or 2 (i'm stage 2) that has an FMIC please advise on whether it made significant diference in terms of sustaining decent performance throughout the day in the summer? I know my car is quick, but i'm used to it's performance and am now even less impressed by it with the warmer air compromising power.

I have done some 0-60's on a private track, and managed to get 5.9secs and have reliably acheived 6.2 - but the other day only got 6.7 - so there is proof that the weather can seriously compromise power.

My CAI is in front of the wheel arch, so there's no heatsoak pre-turbo, but as we all know the turbo can almost glow with heat, so i doubt the CAI makes a huge difference compared to a N/A engine.

Thoughts up please..

I can let you know in a week or 2 mate - I've got stage 2 and am getting my FMIC fitted at end of may.

FMIC is £699+VAT, so its closer to £820 with yourself fitting a new one, unless you manage to get in on the Forge group buy that I think is finishing/finished.

I've heard good things - brendy has almost the same setup with FMIC. Not sure about anyone else.

I've fitted a couple

The one I fitted to Jonah's LC which at the time ran APR, DP, Exhaust, Induction kit - fitted the IC & 'all of a sudden' the car revved a lot better

Got Revo Stage2 on it (one of the 1st I think) and it was transformed. Out in summer evenings doing datalogging we were almost able to max out the settings with minimal timing pull. It went like a rocket.

The only way it could do that is with the IC

excellent - just what i wanted to hear....

m0rk - I'm assuming you when you say almost max out you mean adjusting with the sps3 to higher settings yeah? I'm currently running T6 B6 I think due to seeing some 7's in the timing corrections when running B7... (new SPS3 settings)

Would deffo be good to be able to turn it up and gain a bit :D

We managed to run HB9T9 with 4's & 5's as timing pull, but T7/8 were much lower 1's & 2's

settled on slightly lower boost as well, just for sensiblility.

hey pabs, i saw your RR results. impressive. as we have practically the same setup, mine should be doing the same. I spoke to the guy at regal and he said there's no way i'd get 230 without a FMIC - seems he was wrong if you've acheived that.

Maybe Forge will help us out........ i.e. discount? there needs to be more LC owners pushing their product!!!! lack of owner experience so far!

To forge: does the new FMIC have new hoses to the turbo? or is the restrictive intake pipe still used?

good old regal not the company they used to be, i wouldnt listen to anything they say. On the FMIC front yeah the way the weather is at the moment you certainly will need one especially if you want more power too

Dom mate, my RR results are from "regal"... so what they told you was b*llox. However, they're figures are probably naff anyway, so i don't particularly trust them, but they are the only figures I have (ATM anyway..)

Forge have been running a GB on the FMIC's for the last 4 weeks or so - you've probably missed out unless you have a look in their forum quick and have a word... if not they won't be running another one for a while (i think thats what they said in the thread anyway)

As for the TIP - the FMIC has nothing to do with this (as far as I know) - the hoses you get are purely for the intercooler connections and not the turbo. That's another £100+ odd for that hose :( (I need one of these too)

m0rk - thanks mate - I'll see what settings I can run when its installed :)

sorry guys - either i didn't explain myself properly or you missunderstood. I was refering to the inlet pipe for the stock intercooler - I have seen a picture of how narrow it is, just like with the TIP, and you can get replacements. I want to make sure you dont connect a short silicon hose to the stock intercooler inlet pipe. I'm sure that won't be the case, but just wanna make sure. Can't see the point in a large diameter CAI, TIP, FMIC, downpipe, cat, xorst etc. when there is a restriction in the intake for the intercooler.

Just had loads of work done on house (bathroom, kitchen, conservatory, utility....) so strapped for cash - but now recognising more than ever how much i need to get a TIP, FMIC for my set up to be totally efficient.

Starting to notice handling and brakes are inadequate also. And i'm not a fan of the stock alloys either.

Although i want better handling, I can't put up with any more moaning from the missus bout the already firm ride (and that's just std).

Pabs, what are your brakes like now? what spec did you go for?

With a little boy on the way within just 2 weeks, and it's my first, something makes me think i'll be putting my car right at the bottom of my priorities! Still, have seen some awesome baby seats - one has dummy car controls, including dump-valve noise when changing gear! that's my boy!

The pipe that isn't replaced is compressed - it runs from the turbo, through the wheelarch. I can't be replaced without making contact with the wheel.

dudes,

i have stage 2, Forge TIP, and FMIC with other neccesary upgrades to cope and i can confirm that there is certainly more mid range torque and i have been driving about in 20 - 25 degree heat the last couple of days too, performance and sustanability is much better than before in these conditions, but still better when driving in less than 10 degrees outside temp, i think i am running 6 and 6 on the revo settings? not too sure.

looks fookin mean though, and totally changed the exhaust and engine tone. :)

charlietruman.

can i ask if the silver or (standard) finish of the fmic looks good on your red lcr?

i know you can see it but is it "in ya face"

it looks really tidy mate, i was surprised me how visible it was when i first looked , but it does look good and well placed too. a real must have for those running stage 2.

i will get a piccy in a while and post it up so you can see.

i had to drive to hull from worthing on thurs a day after having it fitted so i have done around 700 miles with it already and i must say i am very very impressed with the extra torque, especially when its cool in the evening. you can be driving along at 3500 rpm in 4th (or 5th) :) and just plant the throttle and she just gets up and goes! no lagging no hesitation just power and it keeps on coming.

i have noticed that driving about in town or driving for prolonged periods of time will mean that the cooling fans cut in earlier than usual, i suppose that although the intercooler is designed to allow air to flow through, it still restricts a certain amount of cooling to the radiator. i dont think its an issue though.

Intercooler fitted

Piccy as promised!

Peeps with FMIC... what SPS settings are you using?
I've been on 6,6 (new SPS3 version) and I've now put it to boost6, timing 7 but not sure what settings for best.

However - f00k me - the cars so different! Sounds deeper, pulls like a train, and todays temps are hot too!

Its had VAG-COM on it by the fitters JKM and they reported seeing figures of 24degrees temp when booting it ;)

Woo and yey - and its my birthday today too! :D

I've run 9,9 on Jonah's (very similar spec) fast as f*ck but just a wee bit more timing pull than I like to see

so currently I think he's got it on B7 T7, no timing pull

really you need to log it & see.
