If you have the cash the best way to buy a car i.m.o. is to get it at a year old and sell it two years later when the warranty ends or lease one.

Just had a read through this lot and its quite shocking that so many of you have so many issues, i've had my ibiza since 04 it started off as a daily and has progresed in to a striped out track toy, but in that time i have only had 1 maf and 2 coil packs, other than that its been faultless 
, i'm predicting that may change once its up and running with the IHI on

Pre Cat Lambda Sensor (did the other one whilst i was there)
2 Damper Inserts for my FK Coilovers (seems one is already faulty too!! only 2 months old )
1 Wheel bearing (finished fitting this about 2hours ago)
1 Wishbone
Poly wishbone bushes (as the old ones were all falling apart)
N75 Valve
1x Front Suspension Top Mount
1 CV Boot
Coolant Flange on the side of the Head
A few Coilpacks
and I still need 2 Track Rod Ends which i'm gna go pickup tomorrow.
Thats not to mention wear items (fuel filter, brake pads, spark plugs and prolly more)
I'm really really starting to get fed up, the past few weeks epecially i've just been chasing faults! the faults are all recently developed faults too.
Ahh well, i'll keep at it

Sorry guys but i don't know what you all expect from these cars, they are 'SEATS' after all, and the MK3s are getting old now, no matter what car you have they are going to need this kind of work done on them at some point. I've had to replace a lot on mine, more to go too. Majority of our cars are heavily modified, I'm suprised they hold up aswell as they do sometimes, especially the engines.

sold the cupra bought a subaru p1, which there is no mistaking was fecking fast!!!! thought ill keep this standard for ever.......... 3 weeks later, d/v bought, panel filter bought, thinking about remaps...... sub 5secs to 60 still isnt enough mate!
now ive sold it as i know ill be ploughing money into mods forever, so now im looking out for a mk3 derv

Recently got offered £1800 for mine PX at Seat - 84k - FSH up until the last one which i did myself, still a clean looking car and certainly not a sh**e box.
When i do get rid i dont think ill sell it privately, though i dont expect much more than £2500 tbh but its not nearly as nice as some of the cars on here (though it has always been looked after)
The cars are getting old now 8-10 year old cars will breakdown, those with big modifications, well thats just the way it works isnt it, you wont see anywhere near your investment back when you sell up.
Just look at the lovely BT Audi A3 for sale in the classfieds - willing to accept 7k - anyone asking even close to that for a cupra unless its a similar spec is dreaming - KO3s cars with bolt on mods are not in the same league.
My cupras been mint for the last 3 1/2 years though - only changed 2 coilpacks, a maf and the backbox which i think is pretty damn good really - I feel though it will present me with a large bill of parts that need doing soon though so i think it will have to go - not spending 1/2 its value on it just to keep it on the road.

I think thats BS, i had mine almost two years and i only recently had to change my coilpacks. Touch wood ive had nothing else go wrong, very reliable cars imo. Own a Fiat or anything French, then we can talk unreliable cars!

Im with you there mate, im starting to get a craving for a LCR, four doors and ko4power!
Don't get me wrong mate,i like mine loads,i would miss it loads if sold it. But just think i remapped 225r would keep me happy for a while
Also after going out in my ex's the other night makes me want one more lol
Dont regret selling mine for a bike one bit after having it out for its first propper ride yesterday.
The Mrs did appreciate some of the left over money for furniture tho!
Just to mention im not under the thumb and the cupra could of stayed!
I had mine up for 6400 and took 5900 in the end, i never thought i would get 6400 for it but you have to start high, i had a figure in my head of 6k so ended up pretty happy. despite all the money i had thrown at it.
Unfortunately modding a car doesn't make it worth much more at the moment as it generally means although the car was looked after it had also been driven hard and is more likely to have parts worn and failing because it has been driven hard. So your never going to make your money back.
Look at the price of mk2 16v ibiza cupras theyre going for 1k-1.5k some of which are only two years older than the mk3 cupras. Yes the mk3 has a turbo but other than that its basically the same car. Give it two years and the mk3 will be dirt cheap its the way things happen unfortunately.

. soon there will be no cupra's lol nah hope you find car you want mate . ive had 2 now well i still have 2 but doin my head in slightly problems all the time . at the mo im driving a standard one not good at all when there all blowers where i live lol. all i can say is let the modding comence

In the same boat really, and agree with others that have posted.
I bought my Cupra in March, off the top of my head, these are the things iv had to do:
- Waterpump went, so had metal impeller pump put in along with a new cambelt
- ABS unit replaced
- £900 spent on bodywork (Still needs more)
- 2 ABS sensors replaced
- Brembo brake refurbishment
- Wishbones, tie rod ends, ball joints all replaced
- New exhaust parts
(a lot of other small bits and pieces as well, which I cant remember)
Then the usuall consumables:
- Tyres
- Pads & discs
- Battery
- Oil & coolant
The amount iv spent on the car since March... I could have almost bought it again.
The thing is, I try and do as much as I can on the car, anything which is beyond my skill level I get done at a garage...
The cars not been un-reliable as such, as iv always been able to work out what's up with it before anything breaks properly.
But whenever something needed doing, iv had to take time off work / restructure my days, spend weekends replacing parts.
It didn't bother me at first, as it had done 70,000 miles when I got it and expected a few things to need doing, but when things "seem" to break all the time, its a little spirit crushing.
I think if any ordinary person owned the car, it would have been scrapped a while ago.
I worked something out when I was dreaming in the Subaru dealership the other day, from what iv been spending on the Ibiza, I could quite easily stretch to paying off a new Impreza STi montly.
So why do I put up with the Ibiza?
- Because I want to be different, I dont want a new car on finance like everybody else (even though it would make great sense), I dont want to drive round in a Vectra or Mondeo, I like being different, and love my yellow semi-rare Ibiza Cupra, with bags of power, and I think I would pay anything to keep it for another few years.
Iv sometimes felt like handing in the towel, getting rid of the Ibiza and getting a new car with a warranty, but when I see the Ibiza, I just cant..... must be love! lol
I think the Ibiza is going to probably be my last "silly" car for a while, as im 21 now, me and the girlfriend are saving for a deposit to put down on a house, so by the time im 23/24 im going to have to own a sensible car... until I can afford another silly car!
