It's the rustproofing compound from the inside surfaces. It used to dribble from the tailgate of my Mk.2 Ibiza and make an incontinent trail down the bumper. Kept it up every summer for the six years I had the car.

So do I have to do anything about this? Is my door going to rust to bits this winter?
When they build the cars they flood all the cavities with wax to prevent rusting. Most of the excess drains away through the drain holes but there will still be a few thick patches left. The hot weather is just melting the wax and gives the excess a chance to escape. I think there should be still be plenty left on all the surfaces to prevent corrosion. Cars have been doing this for years.:)

The reason it is leaking out is that you have an overgenerous coating on that panel. Your other doors and tailgate aren't leaking, but they're still rustproofed.

The only thing you should do is make sure the wax doesn't bung up the drain holes when it hardens, or your door will fill up with water the next time it rains.

Too right. It solidifies and you virtually have to chisel it off. Seems to collect on the door sills.
