Hi all,
Wonder if you could help me.
This morning went out to the car to go to work and the windows were fully down and the car unlocked!!
This has happened a couple of times about 3months ago and once it happened about 3 or 4 wks ago at my wifes work when she was using it that day. On her drive after it happened the auto locking unlocked as she was driving and then locked again when she came to a stop and took off again (over 10mph)

To add to it must have rained last night/early morning when the windows were down to the front passenger seat now is quite damp, got a towel over it at mo. hope it doesnt take too long to dry out.

When i noticed it this morning I put the windows up by turning key in door lock and holding it and then when i came to unlock it again by the remote, the car unlocked and the windows dropped!

Im going to ring the stealer to find out if they know what it is by me tellin them on the fone, dont plan to give it there as have a good vw independant I use for servicing, who I'll ring next. Just like to know what im dealing with.

i have a similar prob with mine. the remote will only lock / unlock all doors, except the driver's door.

works with the key in the lock, but i have to lock it twice to arm the alarm.

very annoying.

Hi all,

There is some kind of 'comfort' feature where is the car gets massively hot (as I understand it) then the ECU can be triggered to drop the windows and open the doors.

It is a trick that is known to car thieves and they do know how to trigger this.....the clever ones.....however there will be signs of forced entry in this instance (Check your doors / locks and handles etc).

If no signs of forced entry then it's a faulty ECU (not the engine one) or sensor most likely

I don't really want to go into any more detail for obvious reasons

I rang the stealers and they said we'll have to look at it (no chance at there rates!) booked it into the specialist on tuesday he said probably a sensor which is getting damp hence triggering it, he mentioned used to be common on passats as sensor under carpet. but hes gonna hook it up to vagcom and try and find the sensor.

i recall somebody from scotland had this issue, do a quick search (something to do with vampires!!)
can't remember moniker or fix - but he had this going on for quite a while before a fix was found;

buts mines a 1.4 S so i dont have climate control etc, just AC. I thought the comfort feature of thinking its too hot and it droppin the windows. Mine unlocks too plus it happened middle of night last thursday so wouldnt have been that hot interior.

I'll search for vampires now, thanks!

Surrey darling...
Have heard of this before and it does seem to be a known security issue for most of the mk4 derived VAG cars...

I'm afraid I can't help you much further than that though as for obvious reasons it's not doumented on the net - a quick chat with the stealers should be able provide you with the answers though! If/when you do find out it'd be grate if you could PM me the answer as I'd really like to know the outcome ;)

HTH a bit

EDIT: IIRC it also has something to do with why people de-lock the drivers door and why you can get a free METALDISC from the stealers to help you delete the drivers lock barrel...

Update- took to independent yesterday ran diagonistics and the drivers door lock was coming up with an intermittant fault. Replaced the drivers door lock and hopefully all is fixed now.
Cost was £94 for door lock itself, total cost was £164.
Apparently common for door lock to go through wear and tear, and when worn is shorts the circuit which causes unlocking and droppin windows, via convience feature! Flippin inconvience more like!!
