I hope someone with more knowledge than me can answer my question

I have a 2011 Ibiza 6J 1.2TDI Ecomotive the one with the 3 cylinder diesel engine. I have searched the internet to try and find out at what mileage or time span should the timing belt be changed. The information appears to be conflicting from 4 to 5 years and between 40,000 and 80,000 miles. I cannot find any information backed up by either Seat or VW.

I bought it this time last year with full Seat dealer service history. The last stamp in the service book is dated 07/03/16 at 59144 miles.

If the intervals are 5 years or 60000 miles it should of been done at that service.

Just to add to this, is it Seats practice to replace the water pump at the same time as the cambelt because my water pump appears to be leaking.

Hope some can help

I used to own a VW 1.9 TDi and also found there was varied and confusing info on cambelt change intervals. Seems this is the case for other variants of VAG TDi engines. After digesting the available info I came to the conclusion that for the 1.9 TDi, the cambelt should be changed every 5 years regardless of mileage and that the auxiliary belt/tensioner and water pump should be replaced at the same time. If there's no record of a cambelt change recorded in your Ibiza's service record then I strongly suspect it hasn't been changed yet, as this is a very important maintenance item that would surely have been logged in the service book. Given that your car is 7 years old I would strongly recommend getting it replaced, as cambelt failure will cause serious damage to the engine. It's possible that a mechanic will be be able to determine if it has indeed been replaced but if there's any doubt, get it done as soon as possible.
