Timing Belt or Timing Chain - 1.2 TSI

Hey all,

Just picked up a Seat Toledo 1.2TSI I-tech yesterday. Have to say I'm very pleased with the amount of car for the money - Drives great too.

Was wondering whether these have timing belts or chain driven? Looked around on forums and owners manual but aside from the 1.6TDI I couldn't find anything on the 1.2 TSI engine.

If anyone could confirm that would be great. Thanks!

What code is your engine?

See the Wiki information here. The earlier engines are chain-driven, the later ones are belt.

Glad you're enjoying the car, good value for money as you say. And a huge boot, which is just what I was looking for.

Just noticed it's an I-tech so that's pre facelift with the chain drive 105PS motor. My favourite 4 pot I've ever owned, despite the turbo failure.

No real need to worry about the chain either. The 1.2 TSI had chain problems early on, but the last spec change (and recall) was in 2012, so your 2014 should be fine (mine was).
