Hi all,

Our 2021 Ibiza coming up to 5 years old in Feb 2026.
I believe belt needs replacing at 5 years.
Has been looked after at local Seat dealer.
Not sure weather to sell soon and get a new Audi A1 for more refinement
Only used locally and the odd motorway journey just to stretch it's legs.

In your position I’d keep your Ibiza - based on your screen shot above it’s covered less than 9k miles so it’s barely run in, and if serviced / maintained regularly should give you many more miles and years of trouble free motoring.

An Audi A1 is basically a Seat Ibiza / VW Polo under the skin (apologies to any A1 owners - no offence intended); it just ‘wears‘ a different, more expensive ‘set of clothes’, costs more to buy and service (if using the Audi dealership network) than an equivalent Ibiza does that’s bought / serviced through the Seat dealership network. As for an A1 being more refined; I doubt there’s much in it compared to a current shape Ibiza; these days, Audi uses lots of hard plastic trim in the current A1 so IMHO perceived quality has dropped in pursuit of cost savings compared to the first generation A1.

As for the cam belt change intervals - I think this has changed (has been significantly extended), and seems to be confirmed by the posts on various forums at the links below.

The 5 year timing belt change interval has been dropped across the VW Group in the UK so the service regime is more inline with the rest of the world.

The timing belt on your vehicle has kevlar bands and is considered a long life part, with only the necessity to check it after a certain period of time.

Thanks for the information.
Will keep it then. I find it too noisy when I use it.
Tyres started to crack now.
Will upgrade too Michelin pilots sports, get some sound deadening for doors and some sound proofing.
I only drive it few times a year, petrol station and motorway runs.
It's only used locally for shopping etc.

Allot of the noise is from the rear of the car in particular the boot. Not having a spare tire in mine meant I had allot of noise from the rear. So, I simply lined the tire well with towels and hey presto a noise reduction. As for the A1 we looked at it before my wife decided on a Mini Cooper 5 door, I was shocked at the vast swaths of hard back plastic in the A1. Things like climate control being part of an expensive pack and low standrad kit even on a S Line. Compared to my 2025 Ibiza there really is little difference quality wise.

Even my wife's Mini has taken a step down trying to hide hard plastic behind a cloth covering. The new screen is amazing if a bit counter intuitive but again against my 2025 Xcellence Lux, no real quality step up interior wise. Autumn also sees the heavily facelifted Ibiza and Arona.
