I thought the newer water pumps had the issue resolved. Still a plastic impeller but made from a different/stronger material?
Dunno but the bottom line is they are made from plastic for a reason ans for the sake of £35, id do it anyway and most dealerships I spoke to before i did mine, recommended it was replaced at the same time. Will prob never happen in this country but, When temps drop during the winter, in extreme cases the coolant can freeze, if this happens with OE Pump, the worst thing that will happen will be the impeller will snap off the pump and the pump will need to be replaced.
If you fit a metal impellered replacement part and the same happens, bye bye timing belt and engine as the impeller wont budge.
