I have been offered to lower my ibiza by a mate for £70. They're not coilovers, just springs - lowering 60mm. I'm on my dad's name on insurance - paying halves, and I have a pretty strong vibe that the insurance will sp*nk me!! I'm 19years old... is it worth doing do you reckon? Realistically?

Tell me what you think...

Get it lowered, insurance doesn't need to know anything ;)

I didn't think they care about lowering cars, only stuff like alloy wheels etc...

until you make a claim and they refuse to pay out...leaving your dad with the bill :s Personally I'd ring the insurance and ask if it will affect you'r premium.

Wrong, unfortunately!

Cey_cls: Definitely check with your insurance company first. They look better when lowered, but I wouldn't do it unless the insurance allows it!

im with adrian flux who stated that the premium will not be affected unless the modification increases the car's power. different insurance companies have differing policies, give them a ring! :)

Thanks everyone! I'm hoping to lower 60mm as I mentioned, so let's hope that's ok... I'm with Direct Line - which have given me a pretty good deal this year ;). anyone on a pretty cheap insurance with their mods included? similar age to me? :) let me know.

I used to be with Churchill, which I believe are part of the same group as Direct Line.

They wouldn't cover any mods when the main driver is under 25, I don't know if Direct Line would have the same rule or not - and I don't know whether it would apply to named drivers.

Usually, the best way for this sort of thing is to get a policy though a modified car specialist broker, such as Brentacre, HIC or Adrian Flux.

aah right - thanks Alpine. Well I've tried getting a quote by noteing "suspension changes" in the mod section on go compare, and the cheapest is like a Grand!!...

460!? thats well cheap!
what was the price when your first year?

try and get a quote with a different insurance company...may be cheaper...

surely if it's your dads name on the insurance and you're a named driver...he's over 25 so the suspension may not cause a difference? just a thought

hmm yeah - buuut (that's such an annoying word) :(... surely the insurance company will work out then that my dad won't be the main driver like it's suppose to be... my dad NEVER uses my car, he has his own car... so even with no evidence - I'm thinking that the insurance will assume that I'm the driver, and I'm a "boy racer"... how many 52year old dentists go around with lowered suspension on a Mk2 Ibiza... not much :p haha

Adrain flux all the way. Plus always best to go on ya own insurance in the long run. (no claims etc)

yep definetely Adrian Flux all the way. Im on my second year with them. Never have a problem when I phone them, very nice staff aswell.

Its worth getting your own policy and getting no claims, the first year on my Ibiza was £1500 quid. 1 years no claims and my insurance halved to £600 with mods declared aswell.

Im 21, 3 years no claims and my insurance is £400 quid on the dot. Thats for my 1.4 Ibiza with all mods declared and unlimited mileage and my dad as a named driver.

Would be cheaper but I live in a medium-high risk area because of all the boy-racers that crash their cars within weeks/months of passing their tests
