Too old for the MK5 ??

Am I too old for my Ibiza FR TSi MK5 and perhaps too old for this forum? I have been driving for twice as long as some users here have been alive. In that time I have had 12 years racing single seaters and tintops as well as doing some race instruction. My road cars have been quite a mixture - E-Type, Aston V8, Prodrived Scoobies, RX-8 230 to name a few out of a very long list (and I mean a LONG list).

I moved from a Leon petrol FR to an Ibiza petrol FR (Speed Blue) in March, basically to reduce running costs yet still keeping a resemblance of performance. My "need for speed" has been well taken care of on the race track over the years and I have no desire to treat our public roads as an alternative. The Leon seems to fit with a very wide age group. On the other hand it is very rare to see we older generation driving an Ibiza.

It appears that most of the MK5 Cupra / Bocs are driven by 17-20 year olds. A college I work with has a collection of Cupras and Bocs in the student car park, where as the staff area is occupied by a far more sedate and elderly set of wheels. This is probably due to we "oldies" having the expense of mortgages and all the other bills that go with house ownership, leaving money for a car somewhere well down the priority list.

Am I the only "oldie" on here? I read a post some time back from a user that owned a Capri (I had two in my early days) so perhaps there is some hope for me.

I'll hang up my Victor Meldrew hat for now.
 
44 years old here :happy:. Moved to the Boc from my previous V6 beast to cut running costs also. Definitely a different feel to this site (possible due to the lower average age) but still provides plenty of useful info and fun to be a member of.
 
46 here but I went with the FR TDi. The Ibiza suits my needs.

Audi have realised that the middle age generation are moving in to smaller cars and have produced the A1 for that purpose.

I see lots of middle age people in the Polo.

The Skoda is also popular with the middle age.

It is Seat that have deliberately aimed the cars at the younger generation.

I say go for whatever you want - at the end of the day it is you that will be driving it.
 
not being that far along myself my input may be from a differant approach but my impression of the ibiza is that it is a cheaper to buy and insure version of the leon and is marketed in such. But ditto to what DEAN0 says, at the end of the day youll be driving it

hey there you old EX-RACER boy. i'm 58 and love my BOC.. and i have had 2 Capri's !!! i my last Seat was a smaller engine, and i think comming from a more powerful car , lot more danger !!! because if you want to overtake you really have to think twice, will i make it hehehe, if you know what i mean . but i think you are much safer in a more powerd car. you just don't have to think, you got the power to do it in seconds, and safe. so the BOC does the lot for me, fast when wanted , not toooo bad on the juice, looks great, and all the rest.... i Certainly haven't grown up yet..... When i do, ill be in the box and fryed hehe... hang in there old timer, do it for all us young at heart farts !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All of a sudden I feel like I'm in no mans land. Neither an old codger, nor a bum fluff student
 
I'm still a couple of years off the big four zero, and in some cases I do feel old compared to most on here. What I do find very strange is the number of 'youngsters' (no offence intended) who can actually afford new cars. When I was doing the Vauxhall thing in my twenties, very few cars were even remotely new, it almost wasn't considered 'good form' to mod anything younger than five years. Yet there are cars on here that seem to come off the forecourt and go straight to a remap shop!

Of course, the one benefit to being an 'oldie' is being able to buy one of these cars and insure it for less than four figures!! :D
 
44 here whilst not choosing an Ibiza I will soon be collecting a Leon CR FR

so boy racer in me is covered with the power/styling etc.

and the old codger is covered with the fact it's an oil burner :)

I've had a few good motors over the years and even had 2 S14a 200sx!that i loved.
I now have a boc and love that too...Especially the DSG...

Oh and am 42
 
Hello Boys... 71 years old fart here living in land of the living dead in Bexhill. Just getting a Cupra in the next week. Changing from a Ibiza Fr Tdi CR 2.0 , after a Leon Fr Tdi CR 2.0 DSG, after a Fiat Panda 100hp which was a real hoot, after a Skoda Fabia Vrs with 180 gee gees. Going on to the Cupra as due trapped nerve in back need to go back to a DSG box, but still like idea of a bit of go.. Im not ready to go to the final pit stop, well not yet..
Just one question any recommendations for best engine oil to use in the Cupra understand they use a bit of the oily stuff ??

:lol: Love it! I know how you feel! I shall be 39 next week and am not looking forward to the big one next year, lol! Oh, and I'm female and getting my brand new Ibiza Sport on Friday! Used to have what I believe is a Mk 1 Ibiza (it was an E reg) - I just hope the new one is much more reliable than that one was!

You sir get maximum respect in the choice of vehicles.

As long as there are no driving gloves, nor tartan blanket on the parcel shelf.
 
39 here and very very happy with my new Ibiza FR. I had to get an auto as my wife has just started driving (she won't go manual) and I wanted something cheapish to run but still fairly quick.

The FR fits the bill perfectly, its a great car.
