i think for every 10mph over 150 you need 100bhp due to physics. Thats why the focus RS mk2 at 300bhp can only manage 163mph....so some of the 400bhp boys on here will be seeing 170mph ish (if they have got the balls!!!) anything over 120 and the LCR feels like a feather.

so has any1 got any ideas to as why i could only get 140?

you realised you were doing double the national speed limit and eased off

unless the top speed is needed on the track, i dont see what the point of this thread is, have i joined the saxo forum by mistake

I think it makes a change from talking about bloody wipers, remaps and exhausts for the hundredth time.

About the 120 feeling like a feather effect, what's that caused by?

Most likely not enough downforce. Ther LCR splitter is good at what it does but it's not enough at those speeds, you really need a better designed undertray and a rear diffuser wouldn't hurt.

I'd quite fancy taking mine right up to the fastest it could go just to see what it was like - but I don't fancy risking my licence, a jail term, my life or the lives of others to do it. If I could get onto a disused airstrip or something then fine but not on a public road.

The ones round here have so many potholes you'd be seriously stuffed if you hit one at 120+ too. I'm quite happy being able to accelerate up to whatever the limit is on the road i'm on nice and quickly and to have fun on the twisty backroads, when safe to do so.

I have not noticed this? been up to 150mph+ a few times in Germany where traffic has allowed and the car has felt fine. IMO the OEM splitter is purely aesthetical and doesn't have any effect on down force.
Mine is pretty low and so the volume of air passing under the car will be reduced, potentially decreasing any uplift effects and increasing downforce. Also on stiff coilovers, 15mm spacers all round and uprated ARBs which must help on the stability front.

does anyone actually care?

i dont.

honestly, who really give a sh** what the top speed is?

lf you don't approve of the thread and you're not interested, then why respond at all?

I can't say l've ever really pushed mine that hard, but I have seen 140mph out of it on a track day long distance sprint. l'd certainly be interested to see what it was capible of but l don't know how safe l'd feel doing it! Way to many things that could go wrong, with the end result of me being in a box 6ft under... :(

Ok guys: Hard data (all taken from the t'interweb so maybe not that hard!)

Leon CupraR Gear Ratios are as follows:

1st: 3.42
2nd: 2.11
3rd: 1.48
4th: 1.15
5th: 1.17
6th: 0.97

F/D (1-4): 3.88
F/D (5-6): 3.10

so top speed accoding to this calculator is 174mph?

That would be the highest speed the gearbox would enable you to hit @ maximum revs... whether or not you have the power to get there is a different story...

edit: but still a nice figure to know incase you find a hill steep enough! haha

Looking at the figures of what people have achieved they look pretty disappointing considering diesel fr can do about 145ish

true, but as has been said, you need a lot of extra power for a small increase in speed at that kind of pace.... just look at the fact that most 1 litres with under 80bhp will still hit 100mph.....
