Toyos wear and tracking

I have bought a new set of toyos every year, not from grip running out by huge side wear.

I am getting the tracking done every 3 months as it is always going out.

Anyone else have problems with tracking and tyre wear, I know the toyos are soft but at the moment it is costing me a fortune.

Car is 03 tdi sport with 17inch OZ alloys for the car.

Any help appreciated

Where are you getting the tracking done ?

If it's a local quick-fit type place, I suggest finding an alignment specialist.

It's not the front inner edges wearing by any chance ?
Mine (and quite a lot of others) had this problem, was so bad on mine I only noticed when there were holes through to the canvas on the inner edges, whil the rest of the tread was fine.

Yes same problem inner running

Exactly that - do you know a cure or do I need harder compound tyres. No I have used specialist places www.topgear.co.uk bran new tracking equioment.

The vibrations I think through off the weights which put the balancing out? That maybe just me being thick though.

Any fixes would help

You went to awesome. Do AMD in Oxford do it. What about a main dealer?

And me. Once i got the tracking done it was alright then. Well until i rolled it which probably put it out a bit.
Suggest you try some where else or ask Top Gear why the tracking keeps going. Either Top Gear are not doing the job properly or you have a mechanical problem.

i had a prob with wear on my nankang 205/40 17" on the edges i spoke to alot of garages. not many said it was the tracking but suggested it was Under Inflation of the tyre maybe try more air (depending what u do have in them) i have at the mo 36 at front and 33 at rear but kwick fit did suggest pushing it to 40 and 37 ish ?

I had this on mine too.

A go on the Hunter laser wheel alignment machine sorted the problem.

£30 well spent.

Given the number of people who have had inner edge tyre wear, and had it cured by sorting the alignment, I'd definitely find a decent place to sort your alignment out.
The place in Nottingham I've been to uses Hunter kit as Mr Jimbo mentioned, it's light years ahead of the simple bits of kit the quick-fit monkeys hang off your tyres and measures far more than just tracking (toe).

Not only will it stop your odd tyre wear, but the car will feel much steady and planted on the road.
Bumping up your tyres to those kinds of pressures will give a really hard ride, reduce grip, and won't solve the misalignment problem.

Shortly after I bought my FR TDI, I noticed that one of the front tyres was very badly worn on the outer edge. I took it in for a tracking check, and the chap said it was perfect. His theory was that the previous owner scrubbed the outer edges of both front tyres before realising the tracking was out, and replaced just one of the tyres.

Since then, I've fitted a pair of Toyo T1-R to the front. The wear is even - but they are wearing very quickly. I reckon I'll be lucky to get 10,000 miles out of them, but at least they're nice and grippy compared to the awful Dunlops that were there originally. I'd rather have grippy tyres that only last 10,000 than put up with a lack of grip for 20,000 miles.

(Actually - I think 10,000 might be optimistic, given that I'm planning a remap in a few weeks.)
