Was driving my car yesterday,

drove from Birmingham to Nottingham. (50 odd miles)
Car was fine, on the return leg though ran into problems.

On the slip road, accelerated to the speed limit. Traction light came on, car did not wheel spin. Was not harsh on the accelerator (mine is modded and lights up the tyres even in 3rd.)

Drove for about 2 miles, pulled into services and turned car off.
Restarted and light still on, drove home. Was terrible traffic near my junction. Standstill,
turned the car on and off and light was gone..

Got near home and it popped back on again.

Today started it, no light.. drove to mates fine.. on way home light popped on again.

Read up on the forum and it seemed to be pointing at the MAF sensor.

Used an OBD scanner, no errors recorded.

So i removed the MAF and started the car, traction light popped on.
Put the obd scanner, and said maff sensor low circuit/voltage.

Took the MAF inside, gave it a blow with a hairdrier.
Went back and re fitted, put new jubilee clips on the pipes.

Cleared the error and light was off. Drove the car around, giving it boost and off boost.
nothing, after 10 minutes of driving. The dreaded light was back on..

So went to drop mate off, was in the car with it turned off..
Turn it on and no light on the way, continued to drive it to get the light on but nothing.
Even drove it round the block with some harsh acceleration, traction working fine.
ESP button activates and de-activates.

So far the light has not come on solid again.

However the strange part and which i think maybe related..

The tempreture! In the inbuilt tempreture reader in the dials (digital one, you can toggle through mpg/time/etc)..

It was reading 4/5/6 degrees.
BUT randomly, it shows a Snowflake/ice symbol?? sometimes it will be just 4/5/6 or whatever degrees and then at times it will show up with a snowflake symbol.

I've never noticed this symbol before ??

Could this be a dodgy tempreture sensor of some sort or does a dodgy MAF cause this?

The MAF in the car was a BOSCH one.

Drive wise, no loss of power. Idles fine, perfect on boost and off. Low and high trottle..

Any ideas lads?

Or just a duff maf.

4 degrees and under I think I get the snowflake... should say in the manual.
The traction light coming on randomly does sound like the maf. Is it secure? They hate vibration. It wont flag an error up until its destroyed. It really needs logging to see what its doing which is tricky without vagcom.

MAF is secure,

i've done a fair few miles, slow and fast..
light has not come on again.

if it comes on again, il just buy a maf and keep it as a spare til needed.

I had this kind of thing in my mk4 Ibiza cupra and it ended up that neither brake light was working. After a bit of research I found that it was quite common on Ibizas. Replaced both bulbs and ESP light went off. Long shot but worth a check.
