Hello people, i've got a fr tdi on a 06 plate and i'm having trouble with the turbo cutting out, it only seems to happen when at high rev in 4th 5th and 6th, the car ill be pulling really well the i loose the turbo totally. no eml light or anything comes on on the dash :S

Just wondering if anyone else has had this prob and how was it fixed, work putting the car on a scanner tell me?

Thanks

Alex

Bet it is going up slight hill... when the turbo comes on boost.

I had this issue.. thought it was the remap over boosting the turbo (certainly classic turbo symptoms) .. but I know these cars have variable vane turbos.. and these stick on other VAG cars.. yet we never hear anything about it here.

The car would reset when you reset ignition and all was fine. Never did VAG-COM the fault code..

WARNING... MAJOR FIRE RISK ... proceed at your own risk... :ban:

Anyway.. the solution for me was to lubricate the external vane mechanism on the turbo with WD40 or 3 in 1 aerosol .. you need the belly pan off .. then find the turbo behind the engine.. and get a good look .. the exhaust side is brown rusty cast iron and the inlet side is silivery aluminium. In the middle and onto the back of the aluminium inlet compressor there is some linkage from the electrical actuator.. this is the bit you need to give a really good lubrication to.. I will do this every oil change now.

Sensible advice.. a turbo exhaust gets very hot.. and WD40 will self ignite on hitting a hot turbo... so make sure exhaust/turbo is no hotter than hand warm before lubricating. Ensure you do not drive more than 2 minutes (e.g. to move just off drive) for 8 hours (ie overnight). Expect exhaust to smoke a bit due to WD40 burning off. Consider carrying a fire extinguisher for your next driving trip...:( .. cost £10 and worth it IMHO if you are unsure..

That what happens! i shoud have said that when it happens i loose the turbo totally, as in it will not work lol. untill i turn the ignition off lock doors, unlock doors and start the car again everything will be fine then.

This is not just boost dropping off.

I will see if i can get it on the vagcom or simlar this week and report back. thanks your help people.
