Got my 56 plate 2.0 TDI Stylance a couple of days ago and have today noticed the squeal is a lot more prominent, it was there when I got it but usually only when I put my foot down.

The noise (siren) happens alot, when I put my foot down, even when going real slow <2000 revs, and sometimes when taking my foot of the pedal. Is this normal or should the turbo noise only kick in at a certain point?

I may be paranoid, but yesteday my brother had it and I was paranoid he may have been blasting the car and thats maybe when I paid more attention to it today (altho I told him not to drive fast)

You should be able to hear the turbos a bit (with the radio off!) but only if you're really listening for it - and I think they kick in around 1500-2000

The sound is quite prominent and took it to a Seat Dealer today who said he is 99% certain its the turbo going but said it pulls fine (he drove it) and turbo does its job. Not sure what to do now only bought it one week ago.

Any Turbo Specialists near you? Might be worth asking one to have a look and listen to see if it is on it's way out or not.

Mine makes a slight whistle but you have to really listen for it. Do you have any blue smoke coming out the exhaust when driving? That can be an indication that all is not well with the turbo.

It quite noticable, like I dont have to be real quiet to hear it. When I push down on the accelerator, I get some grey smoke etc from the exhaust.....

Have written to the dealer I got the car from a week ago;
Vehicle: FD56 KYR

Having purchased the above vehicle from you on the 16th July 2011, I am disappointed to say that having spoken to a Seat dealer today who checked my vehicle, the turbo is on its way out and therefore this vehicle is not fit for purpose or as described under the Sale & Supply of Goods Act 1979.

Please let me know as within 7 days how you intend to rectify this issue.

Kind Regards,

==================
I notice the dealer marked the invoice as trade sale only, I px'd my 04 Golf SDI but this is just a fob off.

My 2ltr sport has made this noise for the last 2 years i.e 25000 mls,independent vw garage told me its nothing to worry about.

How bad is your noise? Mines happen even when revving at low RPM and seems to come and go with accelerator?

I get a noise when the car is driving under 2000rpm and sounds like metal spinning against metal, think its the turbo as it goes away after 2000rpm and seems more apparant when going up a hill at 1700rpm.

Was in to dealer they said there was no play on the shaft and no boost leaks. Its driving me crazy as it never used to do it!

My brother has a Golf 2.0TDI and his turbo has made a noise from day one, sounds like a cross between a demented owl and a siren! Then on the other hand my fathers hardly makes any noise at all and he has same car same engine!

a mate of mine had this problem and it needed a new turbo (not trying to worry you :blink:)

I heard it and the siren sound was loud as fook. my turbo sounds nothing like it, so I can only presume that if it is making a really loud siren noise then it's nackered.

good luck mate!

I bought my 2.0TDi last month and noticed almost immediately after I picked it up (but not on the test drive!) that there was some significant blue/grey smoke form the exhaust under acceleration from low revs and what can only be described as an "owl noise" when pootling around in 1st or 2nd gear.

The garage I bought it from agreed to replace the turbo under the standard 3-month warranty that all dealers must provide, and there is NO noise at all from the new turbo.

Hope you manage to get yours sorted too.

my 2004 110 tdi makes that noise...so please dont say its bad, mine is still pulling like a train :D
