Turning radio off?!

Does anyone know if it's possible to the turn the radio (or cd, or sd card - whatever's playing at the time) off when using the other functions in the infotainment system (e.g. CAR menu, sat nav, phone). It seems to be on all the time and I have to put the volume right down when I'm using the other functions.

Mines got the tech pack...getting the music to lower enough when a satnav announcement cuts in seems to be impossible. There's a setting in the sound setup menu but I can't get it how I want. Certainly it's driven me mad - apparently it's something to do with having the satnav set louder than the music, or possibly the other way round.
But the phone should shut the music off when a call comes in, or you make an outgoing call, or use the voice control function.
Have a fiddle in the settings menu.

Mine quietens the radio ! Turn up the satnav volume by turning the volume control OR steering wheel knob ONLY when the satnav is talking... once you have it comfortably louder than the radio, the volume control will act as a "master" and allow the satnav to be a little louder than the radio at all volumes (or softer, depending on how you set/prefer it)

I've never found a way to turn off the radio. It always seams to come on at the start of the journey. In the end I put a blank SD card in position 2 in the media unit and then activated media sd2. Now I get a warning that there are no playable files which disappears after a second or two but the car remains in silence. A bit of a kludge but it works. The most obvious thing is to turn off the media unit but then the screen goes blank!

The opposite of this works too. Turn the music/radio down when the sat nav isn't saying anything and she'll stay the same volume as before.

Have you tried by pressing the volume knob on the steering wheel?
It pauses the radio and it keeps paused even when you restart the car.
At least it does on my early 2013 FR...

Hi AlexV thanks for this tip. I did used to do this but it seemed to forget the push button off setting after a restart. I've also tried the startup volume setting in the sound menu. That too doesn't seem to want to stick at zero. Really odd!

Thanks all. Pressing the volume knob just mutes the system - the radio (or media) is still on in the background. Looks like there's no way of doing it. It just seems strange to me that if you use the sat nav or car menu function, you're forced to have the radio on or media playing too.

No problem on that trip. But when you restart the car the radio comes on again. On mine it's because the start up volume in settings won't go to zero

There's no problem I guess with turning the sound down. As I say though, it just seems a strange setup to me, knowing the radio's on all the time if any other function is being used. I only wanted to know if I was missing something obvious, but it appears not.

Until you start up the next journey and it has reset to the minimum volume which cannot be zero

Conclusion then to the whole thread: There's no way of turning the radio off if using any of the other functions on the easyconnect system.
