Tyre Failures

Well, thank goodness, for the first time ever, I bought tyre insurance with my Cupra. In the space of 6 weeks I’ve had 2 failures, both times a bulge in the sidewall of the front nearside tyre. These are the P-Zero Seal Inside 35 profiles. The thing is, I don’t recall any particularly heavy impacts that could have caused it, but the fact remains they failed. Pain in the bum running around getting a replacement but thank goodness I opted also for a space saver so I can keep mobile. So, I’ve lost 2 of the 5 I’m allowed over 3 years, inside 6 months. Fingers crossed, or this could get expensive.

This is usually caused by pot holes of trying to mount a kerb, and 35's don't help

Indeed. I’ve had 45’s and 40’s before with no issues, but the country roads of rural bucks are truly shite. I’ve just got the car back, and credit to the technician, I wouldn’t have spotted the bulge until it was much larger - the one I did spot was maybe 40mm around and stuck out around 6-7mm. This one’s no more than 2mm high and maybe 10mm around.

I did feel a bit of a bump last week, but wouldn’t (didn’t) consider it enough to damage a tyre, I was doing maybe 25-30mph as I negotiated a canal bridge, but in hindsight I guess that must have been sufficient. I’ll have to tiptoe around any of the lanes I use from now on! Thankfully, no rim damage to the copper alloys! Off to the garage after work tomorrow for another replacement.

Was a London pothole that did mine years ago.... it appeared in Luxembourg. Drove back on the skinny since nobody opens on a Sunday in Luxembourg... so did the drive back to London at 50mph.

There is a website where you can report potholes and have a moan. Seem to recall I did. Councils are responsible.

I do report potholes (aroung here they us FixMyStreet), but I think this time it was a bit of the edge of the road broken away, and on an unclassifies back road with no kerbs no amount of reporting will get that fixed unfortunately. And the damage to my tyre was found some time after, I've no proof it was actually there that it happened - the bulge very small at the momnet.

Happened to me recently, tyre only a few months old but hit a kerb edge pretty hard and created a slow puncture. Tried to get it repaired but no dice so ended up having a new one fitted - lesson learned - be more careful around kerbs with these low profile wheels/tyres!
