My front tyres are at 22k miles and are needing changed. They are 205/55 R16 and although I took a note of the size, I didn't take a note of the make! However they are the original tyres (July 2007 07 plate).

Anyone replaced their tyres and have a preference for a particular make for a specific reason? I am just an ordinary driver, not performance or power-slide grip etc, I just need my tyres to grip, last as long as possible, and be as quiet as possible which may be my only criticism of the tyres I have.

Any suggestions or preferences?

Pity you can't tell us the make because my last couple of front sets have lasted 10k a time and they are Goodyear SP2000's. Fair enough I should probably rotate with the rears but that's not the point, should be lasting more than 10k and like yourself am an ordinary driver.

Read a few posts about alignment etc

To be honest if you are after mileage I would replace with Bridgestone Turanza's again, they are supposed to be really good for mileage. Someone on Briskoda managed over 50k miles on a set of fronts using Turanzas.

50K:-o must have been mostly motorway miles

I have 17" Bridgestone Potenza RE050 on my XL and they are almost due for replacing at 11K.

They will be changed to Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics when the time comes. I'm always willing to sacrifice miles for grip.

The cheapest I can get the Bridgestones for is £78 each fully fitted etc.
Have also been quoted a Kumho KU31 for £51 each. Now I wouldn't normally go down the Kumho road but when I had a Fabia vrS I got these and they were good.
I very rarely test tyres to their limits, or anywhere near them so as I said endurance and noise are probably the factors.
Agree Bridgestones have done well, but £156 vs £102, is it worth the difference, I don't know!
I sometimes think not to spend too much on a tyre in case it gets an un-fizable puncture, better to have to bin a £50 tyre than a £80 one!
I did see comments in some forums re how well do tyres protect the alloy rims. This could be an issue as my alloys are pretty much spotless and would like to keep them that way!

Decisions decisions..

The Turanzas and made from granite though compared to the RE050's. :D

Check out mytyres.com. They have a wide range and most have tyre test results attached for comparison. Usually good prices too!

Thanks for the feedback, have tried those sites but my local Indie dealer, Auchinlea Tyres in Newhouse Motherwell are still coming up cheaper which I am quite happy at as I always like to use a local Indie for whatever service or product I am getting!

I just need to decide on the Bridgestone or Kumhos now, better the devil you know at a higher price or go cheaper but many be worse in the way of noise or wear, or may be better!

Hi All,
I have fitted various tyres all as recommended by Which magazine, balancing price with grip (wet highest priority:)) my wife has now covered 80k and been through various makes at £80+ a pop. (she managed to ruin two new ones by running on flat ) So this time i have fitted a tyre i discovered by accident via my Indie service guy, when he discovered duff tyre on other car. he rocommended Marangoni tyres???? They are Italian manufactured and they support various racing events and have just fitted them as OEM to Alfa Romeo Mito as standard!! Google them. So yesterday i had two Marangoni Verso tyres fitted to Altea and will report back
