Would I be right in saying, that if a car with a UK registration number ie, a person plate, then under new laws had to be re-registered because it was no longer on UK soil. Is it possible for the DVLA to seize these numbers without payment?
However if you de-register a UK vehicle with cherished plate fitted, you should apply to put the plate on retention. This puts the car back on a VRN of the same year as your vehicle (usually the one originally assigned on first reg or export) - you can then de-register to live overseas whilst retaining the cherished plate for you return to uk. If you de-register the vehicle with a foreign VLA with the cherished plate still assigned then the DVLA can reassign the plate to another vehicle / person.
I notice that you are in NI - I think that it is possible for plates to be transferred from DVLA Swansea to NI.
Mmmm. I was talking about a certain part of the UK which may have been leaving the UK. I know that talking about politics is a no-no on this site. I was asking the question in a round about way.... Just wondering what would have happened to those people with personal plates if it had have happened as these are UK number plates.
