Under Heating/Over Cooling???

Defected!
I've just had my (cam belt) water pump and thermostat changed along with fresh coolant and now my car seems to take ages to warm up. Driving home from work last night the water temp needle never moved until I gave it a few beans down a by pass and then it rose to the usual 90 degrees (By the time I had reached the by pass I'd been driving for a good 15 mins and covered 7 or 8 miles). Also the oil temp sat at 60 degrees (bearing in mind that the coolant gauge does'nt begin to read until 60 degrees) until I reached the by pass and was able to speed up. It could be that it just seems strange to me because before this work was carried out my thermostat was knackered and could have been on it's way out for a while so I just got used to it only taking 5 mins to warm up. Is this normal? Any ideas?

It does seem strange. My coolant always hits 90 within the first 5 mins even on very cold days, and that's driving like a granny because the oil is cold.

Does the heater remain tepid/cold?

Just wondering if it actually is taking longer to warm up or if the gauge just isnt reading right.

Heater is fine. Its been freezing cold the last few days and driving to work this morning the car took maybe 15 mins to heat up instead of the 5 it took before the thermostat job. I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens. Its also worth noting that the oil temp goes up more or less in line with the coolant temp.

I've just got my LCR about 2 weeks ago and I've noticed some days it takes longer than others to get up to 90C. At the moment tho with it being so cold, sometimes it even takes a bit longer than that before the car really feels like it's loosened up and responds quickly to giving it a bootful or chucking it into corners. Personally I'm reserving judgement until the weather gets a bit warmer in the mornings.

I'd say mine has always taken 10 minutes for the coolant to get to 90 degrees.

But still always leave it 20 minutes before I start giving it big revs.

There was a post about this before and the people with oil temp gauges recon it was 20-25 minutes till the oil was fully up to temperatue
