I have just noticed that all my tyres are worn badly on inside edge then about an inch in from inside edge theres loads of thred and they are also worn on outside edge. There is defo wear on the front wishbone bushes but i hear this is common problem as there rubish, but the wear seems to be more sevre on the back tyres, to the point were there illigal on inside edge and fine a few inches into the centre of the tyre.

Can someone shine some light on the matter please, car is 56plate tdi fr, 37000 miles. Cheers.

Wel if the bushers are worn thats not helpin really also if ya trackin is out it will wear on the edges and if ya tyre pressures are wrong thats not goin to help. For the rears theres no way of really trackin them up has it been lowered cause thats not goin to help.

Nope the car aint lowered, car is totally standard, well am going to have to get onto the phone tomorrow to dealer and get it sorted, a tink a should have a few new tyres out of them to only had the car 2 months!

Well yeh possibly on the front but its the back thats worst, and theres nowt to adjust on back. Am sure av read summit about this sumwere on here but cant think were!

If as you say, the tyres are getting badly worn on both the inside shoulder and the outside shoulder, then I'm afraid it could only be excessively low tyre pressures and probably spirited driving. When you drop the pressures, its only the edges of the tyre that carry the load - ie on the sidewalls, the centre section sort of curves in as its not being forced out with the air pressure in the tyres. I'd think that the garage will say the same thing - also tyres are consummables. If on the other hand, the tyre pressures were okay, correct springs fitted and the insides of the front tyres were getting scrubed but not "toothed" then I'd reckon that either the TCA rear bushes are "shot" if the car is nonCupra or the camber on one or both sides is "out" due to either bad factory alignment - poor rebuild after ARB and/or TCA rear bushes change (if nonCupra) - or heavy kerbing.

Has the rear tyre wear actually occurred while the tyres are fitted at the rear - or could a previous owner have swapped them to the back after they'd worn down on the front ?

Get the bushes sorted at the front, then get your suspension geometry checked/setup by a specialist (ie NOT the likes of Kwik-fit etc).
I also vaguely recall reading that the front subframe can be shifted slightly to equalise the front camber.

Nikstar,

Cruelly the same could be said for the wear on the inside and outside of the front tyres - some bad person could have got them turned on the rims! (just to keep it legal for its last owner's few miles)

The comment about Kwik-fit etc should be taken very seriously though - as its "four wheel alignment" the car might need - but only after making sure the TCA rear bushes are good or Cupra type (otherwise you are just wasting your money). After (or during) doing this work I would expect the garage (best to be a VAG indep) to sort out any toeing error and centre the steering wheel.

There are quite a few points where the front suspension and hubs can be adjusted to be in line with the (fixed) rear wheels - and as said the lower crossmember can be moved to help this and the side to side camber variance. Interestingly none of these "movement points" are know as "adjusting points" - its just the way things are.

Now if the rear wheel alignment is out, that means that the car has been bent a bit or has had its rear beam attacked by a kerb etc - fixing that should probably mean getting hold of a replacement beam - or trying the old "tapered shim" trick. Hopefully it will not come to that though.

All of this could be down to torn or sloppy TCA rear bushes and a previous owner that was trading in so did not give a toss about sorting the original problem - and why should they have, it probably would not have made any difference to the trade-in price - so if that is the case it should be back to the dealer/seller - unless the car was bought "as seen and approved" by you.

i seem to have the same problem on the back of my ibiza FR 20VT, i have checked all the tyre pressures and all that is ok, don't drive hard, occasionally drive spirativly, but nothing excessive. Yet the P Zero Nero's on the back have worn excessively on the inside wall.. hmmmmmm

Well the tyre pressures are fine on mine, but cant say they were ok before i got the car, Only other thing i have noticed is that the rear tyres are perished and cracking a bit duno if this could be part of the isssue.

My first thought about the rear tyres wearing like they have was it must have been bumped, but i have had a good look around the chasis and inside boot ect and no sighns of repairs being carried out unless its been done to very high standard.

BJM and Ibiza warrior just out of curiosity what age milage ect are your cars?

I'd be a bit annoyed if the car was sold with any tryes that were cracked and perished - especially as this car must be less than 6 years old! Early cracking etc can be an indication that these tyres have been worked hard with low pressure - ie got too hot!

I dont know but it seems a common problem. When i had the p-zero's on they did exactly the same thing. Only problem was i was on the way down to Liverpool for the New Year when i noticed how much wear the front insides had, so i could do anything about it. And believe me, they where shockingly bad. I replaced the worst one with the spare wheel for the drive back up.

Mine is a sept 2006 - with 27000 miles on it and I'm on my 3rd set of fronts - I'll be mentioning to the place on Saturday regarding the bushes. If their shot I'll get them replaced with the harder Cupra ones instead of getting the same shoddy ones replaced at the dealer!

My current tyres (Toyo T1-R's) have only been on 3000 miles and the inside edge has only 2mm left! The rest of teh tyre has around 6mm left! I got the tracking done when they were fitted!

If this is a design fault I think we should be writing en-mass to SEAT!

Had the same issue with P Zero Neros, lots of wear on inside, thought it was power steering at first but had the tracking checked by a mate and it was miles out.

Reason for the tracking was that my front wishbone rear bushes were shot and I mean screwed! Had them replaced with filled cupra ones and had the tracking sorted!

Nice and even tire wear since and thats 10000 miles with the new bushes. Only like 6 quid each from seat dealer! ;)

Cheers for that reply Jacko - any ideas on the Cupra Bush part numbers? Started looking through the part no. sticky but its too many pages!

Cheers.

Cheers for that mate - although are u sure these are the wishbone bushes and not the Console bushes? I believe Powerflex do a set of wishbone bushes for £40.

Had a scout over on Briskoda and the Fabia owners seem to have the same problem - which was sorted by replacing the console bushes with the Cupra ones! Why couldnt SEAT just get this right in the 1st place!

You say console, I say front wishbone rear bush. Cupra bush you see there is the part I have. I've put some powerflex bushes in at the front as well. Front wish bone rear/console bushes make the biggest difference as the Sport/Fr standard bushes are really poor.
