Upgrading engine

Hiya again peeps

The engine in my Arosa at the moment is a 1.0 MPI and has an AER engine coding.

I am looking to get either a 1.4 or 1.4 16V engine for my car .

Can anyone help out with what I'll need to get to be able to successfully carry out this transplant I already have an A1 mechanic who can do engine swaps but I just want to check out what I need to purchase beforehand to ensure the swap goes through nice and smooth (I.e - New ECU, Fuel pump, gearbox, mountings, wiring loom)

Alot of the parts are the same in all Arosas, so you'll need (obviously) an engine, ECU. Fuel pump may well be the same, as may the radiator, gearbox etc....

But best to ask a few more people as I've never done it Go over to clublupo.co.uk as quite a few people have swapped engines around - I know of one who is putting a 1.4 in a 1.0 Lupo

Why not just buy a 16v it will be a hell of alot cheaper. The only engine i would swap mine for is a 20vt

Well I am seeing SEAT brokers on eBay selling engines for between £200 - £800 and I have a good friend (Do anything mechanic, last put a Escort Cosworth engine into a standard Sierra sapphire) who can fit it for about £200 so the cost will (Hopefully) be minimum.

I have looked at 16V Arosa's but they're pricey and I own my current car outright so just thought I would spend a wee bit extra to give it a bit more oomph

A 1.8 20V Turbo is something I've considered but would need to get an idea on prices and how long it would take. Would love to keep the wee mobile looking as it is but also as a BMW beating street sleeper Anyone knows of who can perform such a conversion (Previous examples available) post a reply and let me know

1.8T has been done a few times before in Arosas and Lupos. Have a google search and I'm sure they'll pop up.

Cost wise you'll need to remember that the V5 will need changing to match the engine, and you'll be seeing an increase in insurance so remember to take that into account too. Saying that, I found a 1.4 16v wasn't much more than my 1.0, but its worth getting a few quotes first to make sure

perhaps worth noting that insurance companys dont seem overly keen on engine swaps though. So might work out more expensive insurance wise than a bought 1.4

I'm new to the Arosa but know people who have done engine conversions on other cars. Would you be changing the suspension rear brakes and everything as well?

If I go for the 1.4 16V Arosa engine then I'll uprate some of the suspension parts to that from a Lupo GTI (Hubs and the likes).

I'll also be looking at getting parts from a Lupo GTI braking system for the front and rear as they have vented front discs and solid discs on the rear which will be more than enough to stop a car this light.

JBS Autodesign have details of a Lupo 1.8T which they have used the Lupo GTI braking system so it should be fine for a 1.4 16V and even better if I can save up for a 1.8T conversion (Overtime here I come)

This will work out a lot more expensive than if you bought a 1.4 16v, due to cost of parts as mentioned, labour (quite a few days) and the fact that insurance companies do not look kindly at cars with engine transplants.

As for the 1.8 20VT option this has been done before a few times, 2 I can think of are BB Tuning in Germany and Venom Motorsport's. I would say you'd have to be looking at £4,000 - £8000 to carry out this conversion and get everything running superb.

If it was me I'd buy a 1.4 16v or a Lupo GTi then you know exactly what you're getting.

I upgraded from a 1.0 Mk1 to a 1.4 16v Mk2 Arosa and now I am selling that.
