I am looking at updating my standard HU in my mk2 leon and fancy the MFD3 or would opt for the VW RNS-510 if needed. It would have to be used as i cant afford £1200+ for a brand new unit. I have come across a company based in bradford called OEM Retrofits and the units are available from £600 fitted. I would like to know if anyone has used this company and would recommend them, or if anyone knows of any other decent companys it would be appreciated.

Cheers

I used OEM on Friday to decode a Seat MFD3 I purchased off Ebay.

I think the Units they sell are the VW ones so you'd have a VW screen appear for the first 5 seconds when switching it on. (There seems to be more updates to these than the Seat ones for some reason)

They're nice guys and know their stuff and will install from your choice of address.

I'd use them again

i contacted them ages ago asking for prices fitted via email and they never got back to me

I used them to fit a Bluetooth system and also wanted them to fit the rns510. They fitted the Bluetooth no problems but the couldn't fit the rns510 because seat software wasn't compatible with my 2010 facelift cupra. The new mk6 vw system version c software would work but the seat version b won't. I have to wait until seat release a unit with version c software. Anyways to some it up I got kit fitted to my car on one if there M25 fitting days and they were really good. Highly recommend.

Seat won't realese a version C of the RNS510 as they've switched to the RNS310 now - no doubt a VW group decision to give Seat the slightly more rubbish kit once again as VW only uses it in the polo afaik.

The VW unit works fine and you won't even notice the the startup logo after a few weeks.

I wouldnt mind the vw logo, i think it is a small sacrifice for such a saving over brand new.

Thanks for the replies chaps they have helped make my mind up!

In my car I have RNS315. I would like to change its for RNS510. My opinion that is possible but firmware must be new. As I know till today are three. A - B - C. For my car MY 2011 I need firmware C. Because Seat doesnt have this model only A,B I must find its in VW cars ... Your opinion !

I did some reading up on this yesterday and I think you are right;

It is only the VW unit that has the firmware C.

SEAT only have firmware A and B I think with no plans to add Firmware C to their RNS-510/MFD3.

So if you want firmware C you need to buy a VW RNS-510 and not the SEAT one

I'm replacing the RNS-310 with a VW RNS-510.
Anybody who is used to an RNS-510 will tell you the RNS-310 is pretty poor in comparison...
I'm using OEM Retrofits in Bradford to do mine. They are also installing a Fiscon kit if the factory bluetooth doesn't integrate with the RNS-510 correctly.

I believe that all RNS-510 units are basically the same, wether they be VW, SEAT or Skoda. The splash screen can be changed with a quick firmware upgrade. Check out my-gti.com

Just so you know, the splash screen can't be changed with a simple firmware upgrade.

Well the unit that comes in the Seat Altea and the unit that come in a Golf/Scirocco are identical on the outside. Are you saying the splash screen is hard coaded onto the unit?

You can take a look on vwnavi but the firmware is not interchangable as the Seat unit doesn't have the SD card reader in it. No-one on there knows how to change the splash screen and the one or two people that say they can do need the unit physically to take it to bits to accomplish.

After further investigation it would appear we're both right (and wrong)...
You can change the splash screen, BUT its not easy or cheap. There are two tools you can use:

careqo.blogspot.com - 1490 EUR
world wide web.motordiag.eu - 699 EUR

Admittedly, these tools do more than just change the splash screen. They can change the PIN, serial number, production date and allow video in motion. However, rather expensive...

Alternatives are to send your unit away to Poland to allow an emplyee of one of the factories that make the units to make abit of extra money in his/her spare time or change the main board...

If all will be good next week I would like to change my RNS 315 for RNS 510 firmware version (C) with voice service included. After instalation I will write you results ...

Did you get this done mate?

i got my RNS-510 (VW version as i wanted the SD Reader!) from ebay 2 years ago and still going strong (shouldnt have said that lol).

Paid £450 delivered with GPS antenna, fitted and coded myself

Also has the optional MIC that allows speech commands

The RNS 510 is a great bit of kit

I have a copy of the latest firmware and will have the latest maps (V7) with FULL post code search in a few days :D

They are available from your nearest VW dealer of course. No idea if they're available on NZB sites or anything like that.
