Using AUG parts on a BAM

Hi all.

I currently have an LCR running an ihi vf 34 turbo and 440cc green injectors.
The bottom end has gone on it so im either looking to source a new engine or replace the botton end because the head is fine. Iv blown a hole in number 1 piston.

What i would like to know is can i bolt my head onto any other 1.8t 20v or even just use the parts to fix my bottom end. My engine code is BAM

Im not very clued up on this so any info would be appreciated

Thanks

I know the power is around 345bhp. Not to sure on the torque. I need 2 get it on the rollers

That's a lot of torque for the stock rods, have a search, the general consensus is to upgrade when you get over 300lb/ft, (the rods bend) i would put some uprated ones in if i was you while you have the opportunity. It could be possible this is the reason for the damage you have now.

if you only blown a hole in number 1 piston, and no other think is wrong with that engine. why not just get some forged rods and new pistons, get a hone and new piston rings? at that levet of torque you needs the rods anyway.

and maybe get the a tuner to look at your software, if you blown a hole in a piston, then meybe you have a AFR og ignition problem?

Sorry whats an afr. I have heard it could have been fuel starvation so that would be down to the software right? The piston has scatched the bore badly so wouldn't that need to be re-bored. I can pick up a recon block built back up with new pistons, rings etc but with forged rods for around £1500. Wouldn't a hone along with all the forge parts come up to more.

just scrap the BAM motor and get a low milage AGU. Use BAM loom and anchilleries. Thats what I did. Works great. Of course I'm using Eurodyne map and a billet 3071 turbokit...

thats what i done aswell, on my bam engine, number 2 piston melted a hole on itself thanks to star performance from there remap..it was goin throo spark plugs on that cylinder ever 3miles or so.. they over-fueled that cylinder and it was working that hard it virtually melted! so wat i done was got an AUQ engine and used all my BAM ancillaries and its working fine now. (i had the remap took off thow!!)

Its been recommended to me to get a replacement BAM or AMK bottom end because of the turbo im running. I dont really want to scrap my head either because i have a custom manifold so it would just mean more cash. But i think i will be getting forged rods iv heard a few times now that they the 1st part to go if your running high torque. Its also starting to sound alot like it was my remap that may have caused fuel starvation on 1 piston

personally i'd save and get forged piston & rods cause your just gonna end with the same problem if you use oem parts running that much torque , price you pay for performance sadly, unless you de tune your car a bit to run your oem piston and rods safely

Thats was the plan once it was fixed to have it de tuned but i think ill still go for the rods anyway just for piece of mind. The hardest part is just sourcing a bam bottom end for a reasonable price. The breakers iv spoke to have a complete engine but dont want to strip it because they are becoming quite rare apparently.

The OE pistons are forged anyway so there should be no need to upgrade those just yet, perhaps at over 400bhp but up until then they are ok. The rods are the weak spot here, compare your OE rods to uprated forged ones, they're huge in comparison.

Nice 1 jay thanks for clearing that up. Im not planning on having anywhere near that much power so thats good to know.

No worries, that was for the BAM/AMK engine by the way, other 1.8T engines might not have forged pistons and in that case you might as well go ahead and buy some real tough aftermarket ones.

all 1,8T in leons/A3/Golf4 have forged mahle pistons, the diffrens is what compression ratio the piston is and if it has 19mm or 20mm wrist pin.

non forged pistons you can find in the 1,8 20V 125hp NA engine..

and the AGU engine is an opgrade if you use the head, the head has bigger ports, and use inletmanifold with bigger runners = more flow.

AGU engines is 20mm wrist pins, bigport head, 9,5:1 CR.
