Just got in from a 15 minute spirited drive of 60+ mph on the country lanes. It's about 20 degrees outside so not cool.

However I ran out of screen wash during the drive (god damn bugs) and when i filled it back up i happened to rest my arm on the inlet manifold. My word was it hot!

Surely this can't be good, i plan to get the laguna IC on pretty sharpish should this improve things?

get a fmic and itll be cool to touch.

i wished!

iv got the forge FMIC and mine gets blooody hot! :(

iv felt scotts one, he has standard intercooler and the power gaskit and his mani was a lot cooler than mine!

the tempurature from the block will quickly tansfer through to the inlet, did u feel it straight after u spoted driving becasue the air from movement and your boost will be cooler than the temp of the block.

with my forge fmic my inlet is almost cold after a run, not brr cold but certainly not warm. that said, if you leave the car turned off for 20 mins heat does begin to disperse from the engine onto it.

yeah, from what ive heard you can tocuh the inlet manif 10 mins after without it being hot!

Deffo a worth mod IMO. FMIC only helps when on boost, e.g. not idle/switched off.

First off, don't call it a power gasket - Bill will have your 'nads. Power Gaskets were a brand of insulating spacer that was made from a Nylon type material and they fit badly and deformed over time.

The one's Bill sells now are Phenolic spacers, they don't creep.

I fitted one on mine - I recon on at least a 10*C reduction in intake temperature, and much less heatsoak in traffic and much quicker to cool down when it has heatsoaked.

The inlet manifold will be hot to the touch some minutes after stopping, as rogers just said, the intake air flowing through the manifold keeps it cool. When you stop there's nothing keeping it cool so the heat from the block warms the inlet manifold up. Try touching the manifold straight after stopping and it'll feel cold (one mine anyway, I know the Ibiza stock intercooler is piddly) then gradually it'll warm up.

Logging it with vag-com will show you something, although I think the intake temp sensor warms up even faster than the manifold - try logging it on the move, as soon as you shut the throttle the IAT climbs, because there's no airflow.

Just think, the block gets up to 90* so the manifold will get up to something like that temperature.

Which block is it I need to log in vag-com for the intake temp phil?

just found this pic on another site while looking for info.

looks like I'll giving the block a good clean up while the inlet is off, makes the oil filter much easier to get to aswell so might do an oil change at the same time ;)

I have a forge FMIC and a EVO heatsheild gasket from Bill, even after a good thrashing the inlet manifold is very cool to touch.
