v5 Shake at idle

I'm getting an almost diesel wobble occurring only at idle on my v5. Getting average mpg and power feels ok but idling at 650-700 rpm brings a really annoying shake.

Any ideas?

The most common reason is a dead coilpack, although that should pop up as an engine light failure. The other one is a failed or failing MAF, which may not show up with an engine light but there may be still be a code.

A third option is something my mate found last week, and that is a loose MAF connector. When we replaced his MAF, the connector catch must have failed, and now it's loose. He's ziptied it secure and it seems to have cured the problem.

A VAGCOM fault code check would be my first check.

Yeah as slimy says most probable causes. The other thing is if you have only recently got a V5 it is by nature a little lumpy on tickover compared to what you may be used to?

It seems like a small margin but I think mine used to idle at 750. On the odd occasion it dipped even by 50-100rpm and corrected itself it would seem out of kilter. This was rare though. An ever so slightly lumpy-ish idle is normal for the V5 but vibration through the cabin isn't.

If you are sure the idle revs are right then I would check the engine mounts.
