Recently started having some issue starting my Ibiza MK3 Cupra. Steadily getting worse, also starting to have problems with loss of power etc. Borrowed my mates VAG com and got the above reading. The timing belt and water pump haven't been changed for 43,000 miles so are due, I've booked to have them both changed Friday as I think the timing belt may have slipped, just wondering

1 is the car still OK to drive or do I risk causing further damage?

2 In your opinions will this remedy the problem, fitting the new belt and water pump and resetting the timing.

3 are there any other jobs worth doing while having the this work done Friday, general meintanance or things worth changing while the water pump and timing belt are changed?

Any help would be much appreciated.

signal too high can be dodgy connection, disconnected. check its plugged on fully and that the pins are'nt corroded or bent.

Would you replace the sensor rather than the belt? Am I right in thinking the sensor is bolted on under the case topside of the engine?

Thanks

I'd say sensor rather than belt, unless you notice any perfomance difference, if it a belt, it would need to be pretty slack to upset the sensors readings...
Do you have cam belt history?

Sorry, I didn't see the first post my phone didn't let me see it...
Drive very gently till its done, it can be nasty if they snap, if it jumped a tooth, it would run like a bag of nails, may even be noisy (valve/piston interference)

The performance is being effected, but only sometimes. Sometimes it's fine and others its really bad, asin barely any boost etc. For example I just took it too the petrol station, both there and back it started first time but on the way there performance was terrible, no boost and lumpy acceleration. On the way back, no problem at all. It's strange. The Belt and water pump were changed by previous owner on 40,000 ish(got receipts) its now on 81,000 and I know belt and water pump are due around every 40000 or so.

I would say the sensor has given up then. When either cam or crank position sensor gives a reading that is out of its normal parameters, it cuts boost, my mate with a mk4 gti t 150 had the same problem, changed the sensor (he did both cam+crank) and said it was like a new car!
It's also worth keeping on top of cam belt maintenance, it can get messy!

Cheers for the help guys. All sorted, had a new timing belt kit fitted, water pump and timing sensor. Now performing better than ever.
