Chaps,

As per title, I've vag-com'd this car several times (not mine) and had no issues, but trying to do a scan today, and clear some error codes, it refuses to sync baud rate with module 01, Engine.

It works with all other modules, Central conv. etc etc, but obviously the one I really need to work is 01.... annoying as hell.

I've plugged my vag-com into my car and it works fine.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Paul

1. Any other symptoms? - like the engine is not running correctly or anything like that? I'm thinking that maybe the ECU is fubar.

2. Could also be an issue with another module trying to talk at the same time as the engine controller. When you do an autoscan, do all other modules you expect for the car show up?

3. Could also be a wiring issue on the diagnostic bus. Any chance that some wires are chaffed?

Car runs fine, no problems. Engine mgt light is on due to suspect knackered lamda probe, and airbag warning light due to accidental disconnection of passenger airbag. Autoscan seems to run fine, although dtc error with stereo, and doesn't speak to module 03 but can't remember what that is. I suspect a damaged wire somewhere but don't know where to look as all other comms seem fine. Really odd...

The 03 module is the ABS system... And a common failure mode on those is for them to hang the diagnostic bus.... Your 01 Engine module comm problems could be directly related to a failed ABS module. I would unplug the fuse to the ABS module and see what improvements occur. If that does not sort it, I would unplug the harness from the ABS and see if you can now reliably talk to the Engine. If either of those improve things, then you know the problem is related to the ABS module.
