USB is better as it is faster but as the vag-com software uses COM (serial) ports as standard u install a driver for it. Very old latops wont have USB ports and some newer ones tend to do away with serial ports. The cable I got is dual K line compatible.

Shareware version of software is limited in some ways. I think there are ways to make it work unlimited tho

Well I don't think anyone would approve of stealing full stop. But I've been reading up quite alot on vag-com recently and thought I would mention it as we are discussing prices and limitations of the shareware version.

Err...what lol? How did I hint at a way to get the full version working without a licence? Like I said - I have been reading about vag-com on lots of forums (most friendlier than this one) and people have been talking about this.

I wont post links as I will probably get arrested or something lol. Just look on other popular VAG group forums for yourself.

Try reading more slowly next time as I've already said all this yet you seem to have some kind of issue with what I say.

I have no reason to look elsewhere or to adjust my reading speed.

You are confirming that you are referring to hacking validation codes on Vag-com to gain use of the full version without payment.

Looking on their website it's $99 for the software only. It's more if you want the cable with it.

Best thing to do is download the trial and get a cheap cable off ebay (that's what I did). Yes you can crack the shareware just as you can crack every piece of protected software - I'm not advocating it in any way just stating a fact to try and clear up the earlier posts!

Obviously if you find the trial useful and you think it's going to be worth using then give the guy who developed it your money for his hard work and everyone's happy

The software is free.
But used as freeware it's fairly limited.

If you buy a cable from Ross-Tech (known as an interface) you get a licence which turns the software into the full version.
You can also download the software, buy a cable from ebay and then buy a licence.
