VAG com

Hi all, its been a while since I was on here, but it is now MOT time and my poor car has some issues. Apart from a few worn tyres and stuff, the big failure is the dreaded emissions C0 too high 1.149%.

I brought VAG com software from Ebay and have had little success using it, managed to turn off airbag light, but can't get anything from Engine codes as it has to be registered and don't have the serial numbers. Sadly can't remember where/who I got it from and records have been erased from Ebay now.

Does anyone in the Sittingbourne/kent area have a working VAG com that could just get the error codes for me, as I don't want to buy a new CAT if it just a Oxy sensor or something.

Cheers!

Hi slimy, thanks for the reply. Couldn't get that far it just said to see results you need to register and I haven't got the licence.

Software

Hi Slimy, just run it again and if I go for Auto scan it just says about registering. If I go to select Engine codes it says cannot sync baud rate.

I will try and get another copy then, can you just download it from the site?

Cheers

The owner of VAGCOM software is also a member on here...

madbsc, autoscan doesn't work with unregistered software, just go into each module in turn, starting with the engine. The fact you can't sync baud rate isn't a problem with the software, it's another issue. And yes, you can just download VCDS lite with no issues.

Hi Slimy, thanks for the info. I have been looking into Baud rate and have a few suggested changes to try out, hopefully one of those will work.

As I said before, Emissions/C0 failed at 1.149% should have been below 0.3%. suggestions from the garage were vague at best, new CAT, Oxy sensor, MAF, not even sure if I have a MAF. Anyhoo, didn't want to spend £100+ on a CAT and it is sensor.

I thought about selling it, but I enjoy driving soo much and it's value is not much now.

Cheers anyway, I'll post result tomorrow.

VAG com now working

Hi Slimy, thanks for the help VAG com now giving results.

16785 P0401 EGR insufficant flow, this has been showing for a year even after changing EGR for new one, apparently according to garage this was low but not an issue.

17972 P1564 Activate
16955 P0571 Activate I think these may be related to not activating software licence.

17598 P1190 Linear 02 sensor reference voltage implausable, I think this is the one that is causing me to fail emissions. The trouble is there are two lambda/02 sensors on the 1.4 16v. There is one near the the pre-CAT on exhaust manifold and one under the car just after the CAT. Hmm which one do I change? ip-dip-doo:confused:

Any ideas or suggestions would be as good as lucky dip.

Cheers

17972 - P1564 - Throttle Actuator: Under-Voltage
16955 - Brake Light Switch (F): Implausible Signal

The pre cat sensor deals with fuel mixture, the post cat sensor is only there to monitor the cat efficiency and won't have any impact on emissions. If you're going to replace one to try and fix the emissions, it would be the pre cat sensor.

sensor and sensibility

Hi guys thansk for the input.

Thanks Marty.H for the offer but you are a bit too far away from me, I'm in Sittingbourne Kent.

ArosaRacer, I think you offerd help before when I was livin on the island. Thanks anyway, but I now have mine VAG com working.

Slimy, thanks for that info. I had just checked out those codes, bummer thought it was just a warning. That may be the reason the EPC light comes on from time-to-time, doesn't affect performance in anyway though? The EPC light seems to come on mainly when it is raining outside, or on misty mornings, not sure if that has any bearing on it though. I'm hoping that that will not affect C02 readings, don't want to get in to too much changing of sensors.

Anyhow, thanks for advice will get a new sensor and see how the emissions are then. please et me if you think the throttle actuator will have an impact on emissions, may be worth a look at that as well.

Cheers madbsc
