Hey, whilst going through some posts I notice some people talking about the VAGCOM tool. Now as far as I know it's a tool that connects to the car's port but I'm not sure what it does.

Will it be able to check the engine codes to see if everything is all right in there too?

Is there a specific model I should look out for? And is it worth purchasing for personal use?

I have 1.4 petrol Ibiza 2010

Thanks you

So I had a look on amazon and found these 2 options:

This cable: Link

or

This Reader: Link

or

This cable: Link

what do you think?

The first cable states "wont work on cars with canbus" so it wont work on a mk5 ibiza

Second unit is stand alone and should be ok

Third cable will require some kind of software for the computer. If their cd is a copy of VCDS then it might work but there wont be any support if it doesn't

The fully blown cable and software package is VCDS from Rosstech - not only will it read codes but you can change items in the car too ( cornering fogs, seat belt warnings etc ) - but it's not cheap - around £265

Is VCDS LITE not still available, I'm only asking the question as if it is, and if you don't want to dig too deeply into car diagnostics, but want to be able to check ALL the car's smart modules, then without spending too much, this could be what you need. I'd think that with time, if you wanted to upgrade to the full VCDS tool, then you could trade up via a RossTech seller if you buy the VCDA LITE and cable from them.

I first bought VAG-COM back in 2002 and when they stopped supporting it, I traded up to VCDS for a small amount of money - all through the original seller in UK.

Yep - VCDS-lite is still available - http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds-lite/download/

But still the same "no support" statement from ross-tech

So let me see if I'm understanding correctly:

I can get the cable and download VCDS lite. This way I will be able to check codes and other information on my car.

If I want I can get VCDS (not lite) and ill be able to modify things.

I'm not sure what you mean with regards to "no support"?

Thanks for the help

So another question, if anyone could help!

What do you think of this?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/SuperScan-V...4&sr=8-2&keywords=Vagcom+ibiza#productDetails

I noticed that it has 2 cables that come with it, one connects it to the car, and the other cable plugs into the instrument and the other end is a USB.

I'm assuming this allows the user to connect the instrument to a pc and transfer some data? Maybe allowing one to use the software mentioned above?

Thank you.

You might get better response if you ask in the diagnostics section
