Hi,

Just wondering if anyone could help me if deciphering some fault codes? :)

I have a 2003 1.2 ibiza and when driving home from work tonight I noticed that my car was shuddering when I was idle, i.e. at traffic lights. When I revved the engine it would stop the shudder. Anyway, when I came home a ran VCDS-Lite on my car and it came back with two faults:

01 - engine
1 fault found
17925 - power relay for ECU (J271 or J363): electrical malfunction
p1517 - 35 - 10 - --intermittent

08 - auto hvac
1 fault found
01596 - motor for outside/recirculated air flap (V154)
30 - 10 - open or short to plus - intermittent

I have tried searching for what these codes actually mean but with no luck. Has anyone got any ideas?

Thanks :)

Thanks :)

Does anyone know where the power relay for the ECU is?

These don't match exactly - for some reason RossTech didn't list those exact fault codes?? But similar descriptions:

17072/P0688/001672 - ECM Power Relay Load Circuit: (J271): Open Circuit

Possible Symptoms
● Engine Coolant Fan running at full Speed while Ignition is OFF and Engine is COLD (could lead to discharged Battery)

Possible Causes
● Fuse(s) faulty
● Power Supply Relay for Engine Control Module (J271) faulty
● Terminal 87 faulty/hanging
● Wiring between Engine Control Module (J220) and Power Supply Relay for Engine Control Module (J271) faulty

Possible Solutions
● Check/Replace Power Supply Relay for Engine Control Module (J271)
● Check Wiring between Engine Control Module (J220) and Power Supply Relay for Engine Control Module (J271)
● Check/Replace Engine Control Module (J220

And as for the other one:

01809 - Actuating Motor for Temperature Flap; Left (V158)

01800 - Actuating Motor for Temperature Flap; Blocked or No Voltage
Possible Symptoms
● HVAC temperature inconsistent.

Possible Causes
● Left Temperature Flap (V158) faulty
● Wiring/Connectors between Left Temperature Flap (V158) and A/C Control Head (E87) faulty
● Temperature flap stuck or obstructed (unable to move freely)

Possible Solutions
● Check Wiring/Connectors between Left Temperature Flap (V158) and A/C Control Head (E87) faulty
● Run Output Tests to make sure Left Temperature Flap (V158) can operate freely.

A lot of time if you check the Fault Codes with similar numbers they are usually related. Code 01598 is a battery signal fault. As the faults above are intermittent, and you say the car shudder until you revved it, could point to low battery voltage, perhaps a fault with the alternator? Were you running the demister? Stereo? Anything with heavy power consumption?

Hmm, none of those seem to fit. It got worse today driving to work and when I was pulling into the car park I found I had difficulty accelerating, then all of a sudden it jumped forward and my engine light started flashing. The engine light hs gone back off now but to me it feels pretty similar to when 2 of my coilpacks went but I've only recently had them replaced. Or maybe sparkplugs? But again they are only a year old. Does anyone know if an electrical malfunction to power relay for ecu would cause similar effects to this? Thanks :)

Ressurecting an old thread but i have similar problems to you and the same fault code has came up, did you ever sort this ?
