Hi all,

I am new to the forum having recently purchased my first Cupra R (after wanting one when they were launched), never been able to justify it due to previously high work mileage but now running my 2002 as a second car (other is a Volvo estate :( )
Driving around with a big smile on my face :p

I managed to find a 70k 3 owner car in great condition - unmodified.
As you can imagine it has a few bits to tidy up as its 15 years old:
- Door seals - done
- new shiny badges - to be ordered
- jacking point covers (missing)

A couple of Qs to the experts on SC.net:
- Any ideas where to get the jacking point covers from? (google not finding any)
- Is colour wear on steering wheel normal? my interior looks great apart from this so trying to work out if can re-dye or should just replace.

The big Q however is whether to remap or not to remap???
Its the 210 and completely standard, i would like it to be quicker but would a stock car do better in resale in a few years...

I live in Hertfordshire so can get a Quantum Tuning remap done down the road and believe its a good map..
Please correct me if I am wrong and should be looking at a diff remap

Thanks
Ben

Hi Ben, mine was missing Jack covers, eBay is where I got mine, I found a good paint shop that got them matching. For the steering wheel I got leather dye and slowly applied and then very carefully applied clear lacquer. Really happy with the results, also touched up the red bit in the middle too.
I still need to do my door seals which I need a spare weekend.
Remapping I can't help. I am yet to do and it's not on the list yet, need cv joint doing first.

Enjoy they are great cars

Hi Lafleur, thanks for your advice. I will keep checking ebay until some good covers come up and will look into the dye, good to know steering wheel is doable without sending it off to be repaired at a high cost.

I only needed 1 door seal replacing (other sills and foot wells were dry luckily). It's pretty straight forward to do:
Take off inner door card
Remove bolts around the outside of the inner door card leaving just top 2 in
You can then lift the edges and pull off/scrap off the old sealant from around the edge and swap it for butyl tape.

Took me about 30 minutes.

Might give it a go this weekend , I got the butyl tape just put off messing about, so good to know its not too lengthy. The steering wheel definitely is worth doing mine was worn badly, okay it's not redone but all my mates were impressed with how it was transformed and it hasn't faded since
