Very Strange Coolant Temperature Readings

well, the gauge is slightly dodgy. i need to try a new temp sensor. but even when the car's been runing hours, it still doesn't seem that hot.

On that basis i'd say thermostat, is really happening a lot lately.

Changed the thermostat last night.

Drove car from cold this morning and after 6 minutes was upto 90 degrees and stayed there.

Thanks for all the help and I would recommend changing the thermostat before the temp sensor.

I am also going to change my thermostat. It basically takes ages to warm now like 2 miles + and might not sit at 90. It has also started on 90 after a "temp stop" then its gone to 70s and climbed back up slow also i booted it recently and it went from 90-70 in secs.

After reading all threads I'm thinking I need 1, are they hard to fit lol ? Might check it out with the climate control: 51 Engine Coolant Temperature. see what that says

I had to remove the alternator as room was very tight.

I would allow 2hrs to do the whole job.

sod that ...... with the right tools you can have it done in less than 15 mins.. ive done it twice now both in less than 15 mins

Agreed not a hard job, the key is the knuckle joints needed or you just can't get the 10mm on the one by the alternator.

Well I have done some testing with my climate control: coolant sensor code 51!

Basically I think my car seems to take a while to get warm "temp gauge" but it is pretty stable when it gets there about 2miles down the rd or more!. I have seen it move 1 or two times as i put above but its hard to get it to move once there.

I have done some testing with the climate control readings. Today

I started the car to make my journey and selected the 51c coolant sensor, watched it climb "can't remember what it started on" but the needle/gauge beat it there 91 on needle and 75ish on the climate control screen. Right 5-6 miles down the road and stopped "both say 90s" stopped for only 2-3 mins. When I got back into the car I selected the climate control: code 51c coolant sensor and "WHAT" its at 40 my needle at this time was still on 91 .

I started the car "thinking" maybe it will move "very" quick but NO it took ages like another 2miles down the road for the climate control to get to 90.

Got home left the car 5mins and tryied again the climate control said 40s and the needle 90 Also the choke kicks in every time this happens even with the needle at 90. The car has a slightly rough idle maybe due to this to.

I take it this means I need a new coolant sensor ? more than a thermostat what do you think lads ?

Yup better get 1 ordered then, that should tell me if the thermostat is ok as I suspect that to is little iffy ill let you know when iv done the temp sensor looks allot easier than the thermostat hehe

ebay less than £10 agreed damn site easier than the thermostat.

Yeah I seen them too. I'm going to ask if its covered under our Auto Protect warranty 1st you never know.. although they are ballz how they work if not will check price from TPS we can get it trade from there. if its allot more than £10 then will use ebay.
