Hi peeps
My vf34 turbo on a seat leon failed ages ago and I'm just trying to get her back on the road, read somewhere that I may be able to put a td05 18g on instead as these are much cheaper?
just wanted to know if this is possible and whether its just as easy as taking the old one off and bolting the new one on?
what steps will needed to be taken to make this work??
it' barnsleys old cupra if that helps and it has a jabbasport manifold!

This can be done but it does require some work. Speak to Bill, Badger 5. I'm sure he has posted something about the td05 on his section.

Nice one cheers for that!! Is it as straightforward as getting someone to do what has been done in that thread to the turbo and bolting it on? Suppose it will need remapping but is that it? also there are loads of different tdo5 turbos can anyone recommend a decent one on a small budget?

So as far as I can gather After speaking to that bill badger5 guy I have to take the turbo and manifold off!

Is this fairly easy I had a quick look and it looks quite difficult to get at as it's right at the back of the engine and quite low down??
Once I have managed this I will have to buy a new turbo a td05 16g and send it to badger5 so he can make the adjustments needed for it to fit etc.
Then the turbo will need to be fitted back on and I guess the car will need to be re-mapped?
So I guess my point is by the time I buy a new turbo get it modified and get the car remapped would I be better off just saving for a replacement vf34 even though it may not be as reliable?
I hope I'm not bugging you all with these questions but I would just like to get as much info as possible before going ahead, so would really welcome people's advice!

You should just get another VF34 - It will be a lot less hassle

...plus the TD05 will not have the same low log as the VF34.

...and the VF34 should be reliable as long as your car is setup properly by a pro ;)

Sounding like good advice!!
Trouble is it keeps going through turbos so I just want it to be more reliable!!
If I'm gonna stick with the vf34 I need to get to the bottom of why they keep failing??
What would be the most common reasons??

which dv are you using and what spring? What boost levels?
how do you drive it? good warm up and cool down each time?

If I was you Id take it to jabba who can check your set up.

If they keep failing then there is obviously something not right.

Get it checked by a pro. It could be too much boost, it could be mapping..? it could be a number of things really...

I would recommend Jabba or Bill (Badger 5)

boost is a key question here.... ihi's are chocolate turbos.... and need boost kept sensibly low

what does yours run?

The car was originally set up by jabbasport I have no idea what dv is on there (guess that means dump-valve?)
As for boost levels I think the guage used to read around 1.5-1.8. All I know is that at the moment I start the car up there is a bit of white smoke out the exhaust and a tiny bit from somewhere around the turbo towards the downpipe area, after about 2 minutes thats it no more smoke but there is no boost when it drives??
I also think the lamda sensor has gone because I had vagcom on it and that was one of the codes??

So are you talking about replacing a turbo, when you haven't even confirmed its failed yet?

sorry should of mentioned I have taken it to a garage and they reckon it failed but quoted me £2000 which is well out of my budget!! was still sort of hoping maybe they hadn't even looked at it properly and I could still salvage it!
