Ok thanks mate, I hope it's something simple.

i dont think my 'rattle' is the same in terms of when it comes on etc but im sure its in or around the centre vents / glovebox area and seems to rattle at certain revs, every time... Never looked in the engine bay for this but im convinced mines is internal to cabin somewhere.

Ill watch this thread with interest, good luck!

Hi. I had the same resonating noise, around 2000 rpm. And yes, it sounds like the noise is comming from the glovebox. I found this movie on you tube, where the guys states it was the rubber hose that touched the plastic recipient for the cooling liquid : youtube.com/watch?v=xT3zPoJEgZQ&feature=related
It wasn't exactly the same noise as mine made, because mine only made that noise between 2000 and 2200 rpm. But I checked the rubber hose anyway and made sure nothing touched the palstic cooling liquid recipient, and... The noise was gone! It's worth to check that.

OK so I have monitored it today and can report back the following.

It vibrates/rattles at 1250-1500rpm only, happens in any gear and even when revving in neutral. I notice it more as I keep my revs between these points.

I am thinking an heat sheild?

Have the exact same noise mate, does my head in.

Do you ever trace it?

Guys, after a service and new steering rack :censored::censored: I got a rattle from glove box area. It was more noticeable in slow moving traffic when moving slow. I knew I had heard the sound before on a previous car....and I was right.

It was a brake line that had came out the clip on the fire wall. Clipped it back in and no more noise. Wasn't easy to spot at first but looked around a good bit.

Might be worth a look for you?

Hello.

I've just become the proud owner of an 07 Leon FR and, within just a few days of driving the vehicle, have noticed something similar to that described in this thread. I was wondering initially if the noise was simply in my head as I'm new to the vehicle, but it doesn't seem "right".

The vibration generally occurs between 1.25 and 1.5 RPM, often on throttle down but also when accelerating in any gear. As others have described, the sound seems to be eminating somewhere in the rear right of the engine (behind the glovebox as some have described).

The car is covered by a 3 month used vehicle warrenty and I'm tempted to take it in to be looked at. Would very much appreciate reading the outcomes of anyone else in this thread, who've taken the vehicle to be looked at.

Cheers

I'll join that same " annoying rattle / vibration noise at low revs even in Neutral " club too! Mines been doing it for about a month and is doing my Nut in. Has anyone cured it yet?? I'm praying it's nothin too expensive or ideally a simple fix? Please help,,!

My DSG does this when cold in the morning, gives some stranges sounds when setting off, after 20seconds the sounds are all gone.

Not sure if this is issues with all the DSGs

Just to add, mine's not a DSG either.

The idea of recording the sound for Youtube is attractive but it's one of those sounds you just can't put your finger on. I have trouble enough trying to get the missus to hear it so I doubt recording it would work.

The best way I can describe it is, for a few seconds, it's like old window-frames vibrating when a large lorry passes outside on the road. It's like a buzzing-rattle. Not very technical, I know.

I know what you mean though. I know these pd170's are louder engines than normal and sound more tractory but this has got to be something else! I'd be interested to know how many people on here have such a noise that the just can't put there finger on but surely isn't just the sound a the 'diesel' engine. I've checked for things loose under bonnet, had it up on ramps at quick fit as to mean its like an exhaust heat shield vibration (metal on metal). However there's PLENtY of room between the exhaust and the shield on these Seats. God knows. Anybody??

Hi Donnyboy. I've just stumbled into this thread (and this website, in fact) so I'll have a lookee at what you're suggesting and get back to everyone......

Where about on the brake lines should i be checking? can you see them at full lock or does the inner arch plastic need to come off?? thanks

Its at the back of the engine, attached to the bulk head. Just pop the bonnet and lean in for a look. Probably need a torch. Might be different depending on your engine. There are loads of clips and pipes that it could be, but worth a look.

Just had a quick look but couldn't see anything untoward. I'm guessing the brake lines are the thin metal ones? I couldn't see any obvious clips off?? I seen some sort if heat shield looking down behind engine that seemed touching or close to another silver metal but so give it a little bang with a hammer to move it. I had a look under car too, this may sound daft but in the down pipe it seems to sit into a metal cup held with two metal posts, the exhaust doesn't sit right in the 'cup' so just wondered if there should be something there like a rubber piece or out to dampen any vibration. I'm probably going off in a tangent, just trying to clutch at straws. Thanks for all the help

Hi.

I had exactly the same prob and got someone to hold throttle on 1250rpm while I was looking under the bonnet. I narrowed it down to the air intake duct, which is in two halves and was resonating. I fitted some split thin tubing along edge between two parts and annoying sound has now gone!

Hope this helps somebody.

No probs.

If you're standing in front of the car centrally it's right at the front up against the front panel in front of the battery and has the big plastic air hose attached to it. That's a lot of front! Ha ha!
