i have a volvo s60 2.4d also and the engine is big enough to spool the turbo down low, anyway i love the 2.4d it's a wonderful engine as it is, with a bigger turbo i think is a blast

let us now what is your result, i'm pretty curious, if it does ok on the 1.9 it will be more than ok on the 2.0 tdi

Well, I have got it back today. It's driving very nicely and it is nice not to have to drive around the smog. I can just hoof it and it goes bloody well without much smoke at all (Still some visible) Estimated BHP - well, I reckon it's around 250, although there seems little difference with LPG on or off. Not sure why. Need to get to a dyno asap. It still drives nicely, and spools up fairly low down. Gets going nicely at 2100rpm, and is on full boost nicely. Stable boost pressure too, of around 2 bar.

Have not tried it with nitrous yet, but its good to know there is some extra fuelling there for the NOS to burn. I hope that gets me into the high 200s. :)

Get it on the RR now... one with and without LPG and NOS ;)

Would be interesting to see what a VT5 on a 1.9 would pull as standard.

Lloyd popped round to mine in yours the other night.
quite a little beastie sounds well raucous and thats just driving away from my house. you can hear the turbo spinning .
must be fun.

is yours still 5 or 6 spd box?
 
I just wonder how did they end up with that map? They didn't have it on dyno and couldn't measure EMPs, if I understand correctly? I would think it is far from optimal with just butt-dyno.:shrug:

I should have mine dynoed (and remapped) within next week and maybe I can drag race it next Saturday. I have a custom made, bigger diameter, MAF (original bottomed out) and hopefully Mika can solve the problem with high EMPs.
 
As far as I know they do a road test, recording data through VAGCOM and then adjust the map based on the figures... and repeat!

Allard have used and installed the VT5 turbo for a fair old while, and I would imagine have an array of benchmark maps based on the engine it's being installed to.

In the case of the VT2 I have installed, I still need to go back to get the boost pressure upped a little to get rid of some of the smoke. In it's current form Allard predicted 220BHP, and it made 221BHP on the rolling road.

Will be getting my VT5 mapped soon now that Lloyd is happy with Jason's set up.

Will be interesting to see where we get without the performance cam fitted, hoping for 230bhp + and holding somewhere near that power level well up towards 5000rpm. :D
 
That's one way to do it. It just takes days instead of hours to do it that way. Well, it's the result that counts so customers should be OK with that.

Timbo, keep in mind that there's a point in the pressure above which smoke will just increase (and power decreace). Once again I'm talking about EMPs. I might repeat myself a bit too much.:D

Is it important to upgrade the MAF then? What are the limits of the standard one?

I bought a new original one (63mm in diameter) and put it into 90mm acrylic tube. Unfourtunately it was too big as it reads 0 at idle. Touching gas pedal ever so slightly raises reading to 5-15. Tomorrow I'll have 80mm tube so it should be fine.

I have an ancient kind of MAF and so I can't tell how much your will tolerate.

Here's a picture of it in 90mm tube. I chose acrylic tube as it is easy to grind and glue. Transparency isn't for show purposes as nothing else on my van. I'll probably paint it black later.

What about the MAF screens either side of the MAF sensor? - I have two plastic mesh style screens and a trumpet in the airbox.
I understood these were to smooth and straighten airflow for the MAF.
 
I think I will crack open the NOS bottle for my journey to Bristol this afternoon, and see what effect it has. :) Interesting MAF talk. It's been mentioned elsewhere that my MAF might be maxxed out but I've no idea how to find out if that's the case, and if it can be modified. I suspect Lloyd would have mentioned something.

I have the 6 speed box - imminently to have a peloquin diff fitted. :)

As basstard said, you don't need those as MAF gives you a scale. That scale is utilised by mapper so it can be anything.

Those mesh screens restrict the airflow at high rpm on higly tuned engines. On a 180hp 1.9TDI those was measured to cause 0,2bar vacuum if I remember it right. Original airbox was 0,05bar.

Ok I would like to remove them as often thought they would impede flow, but others on here have said not too as they are there for the benefit of straightening airflow etc.
