Hi, am looking at buying a 2006 (56) 2.0T FR FSI, first time I've moved over from a diesel (used to own a 2004 1.9 (150) Leon, then a BMW 123d but missed the Leon so much I've sold the BMW and want to buy another Leon).

As I'm moving from diesel to petrol, how much should I expect from a full tank of mostly motorway miles? 350? I will use the car for business as well (mileage is covered at 15p) so yearly mileage could be 10-15k. Mrs. wants me to get a TDi but would really love to pick up a petrol if I can.

Any other advice or things I need to look out for?

thanks everyone

It won't be as good as you remember it, nothing ever is ;)

I don't do enough motorway miles to be certain, but if you're 90% motorway then you should get 350 out of a tank if you're sensible with the cruise control.

Make sure it's had its cambelt done. A car that age should have had it by now.

Thanks guys.

Yep its had the belt done - 41k on the clock and FSH. BTCC bodykit as well.

I drove to Poland twice a year as well so it's good to know what I can get out of it.

any advice is always useful, cheers.

if I get contracts close to home it will be fine, would just blow if I get another contract 150-200 miles away and have to drive there and back each week!

For 10-15k miles suggestion is to follow your wishes and get a petrol car ftw , as said 90% motorway wont be a problem about consumption

Me whit Revo stage1 CupraR 330 miles more or less.... 50% motorway

Fr TFSI

I have a 2.0 Tfsi fr and do around 160 motorway miles each day. I average 36 no problem but if I'm
Feeling like I want to I can get almost 40. I've had mine remapped and run an induction kit so there's still plenty available for a more vigorous drive on my days off or of someone wants a little race on A roads. I've done a lot of mileage in mine over the last 2 years and it's never let me down.

Ihave a petrol 07 fr and its a cracking car and i love it to bits but if finances allow for perhaps a small premium over the fr i would opt for a Cupra nothing in it economy wise more performance bigger turbo and if you go down the remap route lots more power i regret not buying the cupra, all in all though both or sound choices.

Thanks...the petrol gets more tempting then :)

Its 2.0 FR TFSI with BTCC kit, 2006 with FSH, cruise for £7900 (he wanted £8400). No Bluetooth, armrest or xenons was the only shame.

Hmm, unfortunately looks like that one might be no good. Strange mileage discrepancy on the HPI check

you'll be unlikely to find a 06 fr TFSI with Xenons bluetooth AND arm rest!

Well if it helps, mine has just ticked 40k, and i'd be looking for 7.5k! (not selling) suprised he's asking 8400!

Yeh, finding one in the spec I want is proving difficult :)

Was looking at this one but as I said, HPI mileage discrepancy and not getting a good response from the chap.

Back to the hunt then....

I have a 2.0 TFSI Reference Sport and have had 430 miles out of mine doing about 65 on the motorway and using cruise control.

One thing I will say, make sure you get the cam follower checked. The early TFSI engines have issues with the cam follower wearing through and allowing the fuel pump rod to then touch and score into the camshaft itself. It should be checked every 40k miles, from what I have been told, but am more than happy to be corrected.

i do love my FR, i find i get 270-300 to a tank.

im doing a 300 mile run in 20 days, ill be doing it 2-3am so will sit at 55-65 one way, my normal style the other and see if its worth going the extra bit earlier for trips in future.

good advice thanks I will check for that ^^

tempted to look at a Cupra..pushes the budget as the insurance goes up massively between the Cupra and 2.0 TFSI but we will see

I'd be having a word with your boss if you're only getting 15p/mile (and no lump sum). I estimate my TDi has a marginal cost per mile of 21p/mile. Fuel alone is over 15p/mile. And that's not including any fixed costs (insurance, tax, etc.). Income Tax use a figure of 45p/mile as a reasonable cost.

Even if you managed to get 35mpg, your petrol costs would be 18p/mile.

I would listen to your missus, 'n stick with a diesel.

Who are these strange people who would drive an FR at 55mph on an empty motorway? My idea of taking it easy is sticking to a nice gentle 90 mph.
