Warning lights, car wont start..help!

Hi all. Great to have found this forum, hope one of you cleverclogs out there can help me cos if you do, you get onto my Malt Whisky at Christmas list..

Ive got a copper SEAT Ibiza Cupra Sport GTi 2.0 8v, it's the best car Ive ever had and was driving perfectly until recently when the fob suddenly wouldnt lock/unlock the car and it also struggled to start, very soon it wouldnt start at all; Damn. Warning lights Fuel, Oil, ABS, Brakes? and Airbag all on. Starter motor turns fine but no fire-up. Changed fob battery, no change. Re-charged my main car battery, put it back in and discovered the alarm that I didnt think I had, haha. Re-programmed the fob and seemed to get the alarm de-activated and got my doors locked by the key I also thought didnt work, so, before I have to pay £hundreds to get my car looked at by a presumably v. expensive mobile autoelectrician, can anyone tell me if any of this is familiar and how it can be fixed? Could it be as simple (Im a born optimist) as a faulty relay eg. No. 19? *Car has uprated air filter/Magnex exhaust, slightly lower suspension.

unfortunatly bud this is the mk3 section and the mk3 never came with the 2.0 8v

but i have a cordy with the same engine but not much knowledge of it...at a guess if its cranking fine just not starting have you checked plugs, leads, dizzy? can u smell fuel after a while of trying to start it?

these are the first things id go for... before looking at the immobiliser

I'll start with a warning to everyone I've deleted posts from - you're all damned lucky I've not removed you.

anyway

onto your problems

1) fuelling
2) ignition

you don't have one of these

If we assume the Immo is still OK - then it's pretty easy to check these

when cranking the engine, and it doesn't start (does it even try?) can you smell petrol from the exhaust? If yes - then the fuel is OK

If no - then when you turn the ignition on initially (but not cranking the engine) can you hear the fuel pump for a couple of seconds (sounds like a whirr under the back seat)

If you can smell fuel, it's not getting a spark

so... remove the dizzy cap & check you have a rotor left - these wear out - as do rotors - but they tend to go unreliable - rather than just stop

if it's looking OK - spray some WD40 in there and move on

next up, remove an HT lead, and connect it to a spare spark plug and rest it on the engine (metal) so to make an earth

when you turn the car there should be a spark

no spark? then the coil would be my first port of call, if the HT leads are all in otherwise rude health

if that doesn't work - report back
