Washer fluid low warning?

Hi All,

I was driving to work this morning and my washer water ran out! I thought I would get a warning before that happened! Does the MK5 Ibiza cupra have a warning or is mine broken?
Pretty sure the MK4 i had a while ago had one....

I know its trivial but i am just curious.....

Nope, only if you have the bi-xenon iirc.
I can usually tell when the washer fluids running low, the rear wiper starts to splutter and then fronts dont work

I have the winter pack which has headlight wash and there is also no low level indication. Pretty sure you don't even get it with the xenons.

I mean to try to find a suitable piece of flexible transparent pipe to use as a level tester. My Honda Civic has one attached to the filler cap. Push in the tube so that it touches the bottom, put your finger over the end of the tube, withdraw the tube and note the level.

As it is the only way to determine the level is to fill up!

My local dealer kindly printed out a long list of info. for my car. It states:-

"8W0 Without washer fluid level indicator."

It's not listed as part of the winter pack in the specs. It is for a VW Polo - one of the few areas where the Polo spec. is better!

Its not the end of the world though, none of my previous cars had it. Never worried, just when I wash the car(weekly/biweekly) I check and top up fluids as and when( The TSi uses more oil than it has fresh water! )

I will just have to remember to check it more often....

I would have thought washer fluid level is standard fit to all modern cars, I stand corrected, life goes on.....

Jeezo I didn't even know this! This is something I didn't think about checking as you just expect it to have this as standard

I haven't got it in my beeza SX, but i did have it in my Fiesta Ghia x (1998) I remember panicking the first time the light came on as I had no idea what it was!!

Why indeed? I wouldn't mind if you could see the level as you could when these things were under the bonnet. With so much stuff in there they now put the container inside the wheel arch and so the only way to check the level is to fill it up! Often I do it and only manage to get 1/2 litre or so in - a waste of time.

I agree this is an annoyance.

However I'm much more concerned that there is no low level Oil sensor

Only a low pressure lamp that never illuminates until there is no pressure i hear

I didn't know this either! Are you sure about this as when I picked mine up from the dealership I took mine for a spin. after a while the oil light came on when I was going fast round corners. I checked the dipstick and it was bone dry. when I took it back to the dealership the next day the guy told me that no damage would have been done because the oil light wasn't on??

What engine was it?

Pretty certain the 1.4TSI engines don't have one :/

Bit off topic but as there is no temperature gauge, is there a warning for if the engine gets too hot?

There's a warning lamp, yes, but at what temperature it illuminates I do not know

What colour was it? The low level light is amber while the low pressure one is red.

I phoned SEAT customer service about the 1.2 TSI and they returned the call telling me that there is indeed a low level light (as well as a low pressure one). It's possible that since the 1.4 TSI is older it doesn't have this.

If the low pressure light came on at all there would surely be a risk of serious engine damage.

I heard the same, I believe the 1.4TSI doesn't have this low level light.
