Wastegate Chatter??

A mate has a 1998 1.8 20vt golf standard, when lifting of he gets wastegate chatter? Is that normal or is the a leak or a problem somewhere?

Seems to pull alright and feels like it's boosting ok?

check the Dump valve...probably shagged!

sounds like its stuck closed, forcing air back over the turbo fins causing the noise

would guess definately dump valve also.. especially as its running the standard plastic one!

the nissan boys like wastegate chatter they do it by pluming it so air is forced back through the turbo to make the chatter sound not sure if it's a good thing to do cause it surely slows the turbines down!
