Since my last thread I have removed the carpet and sound proofing which hopefully help me determine where the water is getting in.
Trying to buy a couple of seat airbag sensors is proving to be a real nightmare even second hand as you all probably know they want to seell you the complete system and not just the sensors.Mind you even complete systems seem to be as rare as hens teeth as well.

What I would now like to ask is how do you determine whether the problem is the airbag module rather than the sensors.

And given where the module is placed how can you gain access to it. Do you have to remove the dash board and the heater.

I think if you do have to remove the dash its a step too far for an amateur like me and given how long the Leons have been out why on earth can't you get a Haynes Manual for it.

Do you mean the crash sensors? These are bolted to the chassis under the driver seat and one under the passenger seat, they are the same sensor so can be swapped over to see if the fault moves to the other side.

My door seals failed flooding my sound deadening killing my sensor. Seat wanted £126 plus vat, dave at sere motors through this forum did it for £106 delivered, this was a yr ago so may have gone up.

I removed both seats, lifted the carpet, removed sound deadening to dry, dried out the car whilst repairing all the door seals with butyl tape, replaced the sensor and refitted everything. Whilst the seats are out hoover the carpet, it was like a new interior when i finished!
I allowed a day when it was sunny to do it all, took a lot less.

Remember if working on air bags and sensors, disconnect battery 15 mins before you start, once finished i put key in ignition and turn on before connecting the battery negative back up, do it quickly as there will be a little spark, i do that so if the airbags deploy when ignition is put on i am outside the car not sat in it. Just a safety thing really.

Thanks for responding cleverspoon. Yes like you I have removed the carpets and sound proofing and they are sitting in the garage now hopefully drying out.
The codes on the Vag Com told me that both the passenger and drivers side air bag seat sensors were not working.

Just before I received your reply I was sitting here thinking that the problem with the sensors is probably a dry joint and I am surprised that an enterprising individual has not set a business up repairing them.Perhaps its not as easy to do as I think though.

I will try and Google Steves company as even at that price by what I read it will be a cheap option.

This must be the most difficult problem I have ever encountered on any car that I have owned because getting a replacement part is a nightmare.

I must admit in trying to resolve this problem I have kept the battery connected because am I correct in saying that if I disconnect the battery when I reconnect it I will require a code for the originally equipped radio. But when turning the car back on I do stand outside.

Thanks again for your advice and it is really welcomed Ted

Oh seat sensors, there are plugs under each seat as the seat has a sensor to know if any one is in it, perhaps these plugs have come unplugged? Try clearing faults and see if that helps, maybe unplug the seats and plug back in to clean joint.

Sere motors can be contacted through the forum, go to the home screen of forum and scroll down untill you see sere motors

Thanks again cleverspoon. I removed the seats today and disconnected and reconnected the plugs under the seats and also the plugs that go into the sensors on the floor.
I tried clearing the faults several times and although the VAG COM was telling me the faults had been erased the light stayed on.

After my last posting I Goggled Sere Motors and sent them a message re buying the sensors.
The wife is watching the telly but that is something I cannot do until I solve this problem as it is doing my head in.
