Waterpump leakin 1.8t BAM

Just curious has anyone suffered a waterpump leak/failure? My car sometimes starts to overheat when idling after the engine is up to temp, which has forced me to fix the slow speed problem. Also, when fitting my fmic, I noticed coolant on my undertray and what seemed to be coolant trailing down the drivers side of the engine which makes me think waterpump? How do I go about diagnosing the problem? Had the coolant light on the dash one morning, so checked level and it was quite low. Topped it up and risked driving from Cornwall to Gloucester and there was no fluid missing after it had cooled down...? Any advice?

should just be timing cover off and you can see the pump, should have like pinky deposits aound the edges if its leaking where the hot engine has cooked the coolant

look for pink.. if metal impellor w'pump they leak thru the shaft so will see evidence of pink around the bottom of your timing belt covers etc

Water pump impeller likely shagged, common problem. Fix it before you need an engine mate.

Cheers for the replies guys. I've sent some emails for prices to get the belt and pump done, I'm still not 100% it's the pump as it was stamped in the book at 63k and it's on 71k now.... Had the parts and labour receipt too but still it's not proof really is it. They weren't genuine parts I know that, is there anywhere else they leak from commonly? I'm 3000 miles away or I'd go and check where it was coming from. My brother is going to have a look at it possibly this week, but the battery is now flat! I've read that some plastic water hose unions leak, but what side if the engine are they? Just curious, Bill, what do you charge for a belt and pump chain with parts supplied? If you even do them? Could you pm me when you have time. Cheers

Just done a little reading, does it sound likely that where the slow speed fans haven't been working and the car has overheated that the pump had overheated and ruined itself? I'm dreading coming home to this problem....

I've read I should feel rad pipes for temp and flush the rad with clean water?

Had mine start leaking after about a year, would empty the system in about 5 days just before it was changed
Look for the pink deposits like in the pic below
