Have been going down the weight loss road myself - mine is now under 1000kgs fully fuelled but any more will neccessitate plastic windows, panels, doors etc. This may save another 50 or so.

Are considering taking car off the road presently and taking lights out etc.

Power steering can come out and be replaced with electric type system rather than hydraulic from peugeot or astra.

BIG radiator fan and ducting can come out and in goes a nice light kenlow item

There are full race ibiza's down to the 850kg mark but these are S1600 spec and really gutted out with no heater and all of the above.

No way we will ever get an ibiza down to the 600kg mark that some of the rallycross boys reckon they can get nova's and fiesta's down to.

Yes you can give the car more power to go faster but if you want to go fast round corners then you need to get the car's weight down

Cheers

Rob

You're going to need to take the whole lot out... trim (inc door cards, lower dash) all carpets, sound deadening... then get yourself a cutting tool, heat gun and chissel. There are loads of un-needed mounts that can be removed, and the sh*t thats stuck to the floor can be heated and chipped off... from what I've seen not the easiest job. The 5kg weight is bolted to the front subframe, it's a damper weight... get rid of it! Loads of un-needed cr*p in the engine bay, covers, etc. Put a small washer bottle in. Look into weight distribution as well.

Yes on the last post (20) on the previous page.

Still no sign of those 5kgs anti vibration weights. I've found a black piece of metal bolted to the front subframe, but it only weights about 300grams. Any ideas Kev, im probably not even in the right place.

I removed the rear seats along with the washer fluid (6l!), spare wheel, tools and wipers but the space emptied by the seats acts like a resonator for the exhaust, exactly at 3.000 rpm the sound is unbearable......(for my wife that is :))

I couldn't find the damper weight under the front subrame the you guys are talking about. anybody can be more specific about its location?

Does anyone know how much Cupra's officially weigh as standard? Kerb Weight.

Mine has been corner weighted and was 1153kg with no rear seats and cage added. under carpet sandbags removed but nothing else, so plenty to pick away at to loose weight.
revokev has done the most to his 20vt ibiza, but i don tknow if he's got it weighed.

I know this thread is pretty old but i thought i'd use it instead of starting another on the same topic.

So the block of steel on the subframe can be removed without causing any problems?

Air-con removal, could those of you who have done this could you possbily post up any pics or bits required to do the job. Same goes for ABS removal.

Thanks in advance!!;)

the only thing you need to 'replace' when removing the air con is the belt that drives the air con unit.

the rest is easy. bumper off, undo 'everything' you want to take off

and yes, youcan easily remove the lump of steel

Bill said i need a smaller belt, can these be bought off the shelf or will i have to make one?

I'm not sure which bits are part of the air-con, i know the small rad at the front and a few bits and pieces in behind the fan but that's it.

the biggest 'weight' is for the compressor.

beltwise, I'd guess a 1.8T, non air con belt, but you'd have to measure the 'new' route

As mentioned belt is a standard 1.8t belt for a car with no air-con.
You can also replace/change most of the heating system as it's got load's of unrequired stuff for the Aircon. Easiest to pull the dash out to do this and get hold of a heater (if you still want one) that's out of a car without aircon.

Loads of stuff these cars have that's not needed...

Aircon
airbags
central locking
locks.
sound deadening
seat brackets
various other brackets

anything hinged isn't structural...

...get the grinder out and go and have some fun! ;)

Ah didn't realise that removing the air-con would mean no heater. Not taking the dash out, i was only planning on taking out things that were easyish to remove. Is there an idiots guide to removing the dash anywhere??

Heater from an none air-con car, which car?

If the car gets written off by the insurance they it'll be getting properly stripped but other than that it'll be used most days.

you still have a heater without air con. what hes saying is that the heater matrix, etc has extra bits air con related that can be swapped off a non aircon car. i didnt realise this myself. i had just removed the under bonnet stuff.

It doesn't mean you need to remove the heater... but if you do remove it you can put a heater in from a lower model car and lose the rest of the junk that would otherwise have to remain in the heater.
